Need help making exterior not so plain - Pics included
Comments (15)Thank you for the continued help.:-) I really appreciate it. Oopsie - The view out our front door and porch area is a beautiful one, lots of trees, a windy street and a pond with a fountain. My only hesitation about a front door with glass is the privacy issue. Not so much security, as I think if someone's going to break in they're going to break in. But, I do think about not being able to sneak up to the door and peek through the peep hole to see if I want to answer or not. I have always loved the doors with clear glass with divided grills like I posted above, but the privacy thing sways me away from them. Hmm... A solid door would be cheaper and more private, and I'm glad to hear that at least some of you think it would look okay....See MoreWalnut Veneer? Plain or quarter sawn? Need serious help please
Comments (6)I love walnut. If I live long enough to do another kitchen (not likely I will be 60 in Sept), it will be walnut. I just love the richness of it. My staircase is done in oak and walnut and I haven't noticed any lightening of the wood. It may be the sealant that is on it. I really think that your heart is telling you to go with the plain sawn so go with what you love. Whatever you decide you will love it!...See MorePlain and fancy cabinetry help
Comments (3)Threads on this in the past have shown that people are divided on this issue. I've found that it seems to depend on what look and feel is important to you. I'm sure others will weigh in with more pros and cons, but my preference is wood because I prefer that look and feel and don't want it to have that "perfect" look of MDF (for many this is a positive, but for me it's a negative). Also, we've had extensive water damage twice and where ever I had been talked into using MDF or particle board, it was wrecked, but the wood was fine....See MoreKitchen is so plain, please help me with hardware
Comments (20)Thanks everyone! Glad that some people think it's look OK. I don't think it's heinous, just I didn't get the "oooo! ahhh!" feeling like I did with my bathroom (this is a different stain). Although I agree will look better when the inset sink doors are in and with hardware. ETA: I like the look in the pics from mdlin, does mine look like that? The inset drawer boxes in the 21" vanity cabinets are exactly 3" shorter than the overlay drawers in the 24" kitchen cabinets, so I'm hoping if I wanted to change the fronts, I could reuse the boxes. Thanks for the feedback on bin pulls, I'm going to get some samples. A lot of my inspiration pics have bin pulls, and I think beefier hardware will look better. Any other thoughts on the hardware color? I'd love to strip the paint in the dining room one day. Maybe if the kitchen and bath ever get finished! The contents of kitchen, bath, and 1 bedroom are in the dining and living room, so looks like Hoarders right now....See MoreRelated Professionals
