Comments (8)Great video clip, Xuan! He's really a playful little guy! Through the years, I have found out that it's best not to give puppies socks or shoes to chew on... they don't know the difference between the ones you gave them, and the ones that belong to you! I lost a fabulous pair of heels to a bulldog pup... it wasn't her fault... I gave her an old sneaker to play with, and she thought she could play with all my shoes! Big mistake! So now... I give pups their own toys, dog toys. Kongs or rope toys, balls... stuffed squeaky dog toys... anything made specifically for dogs. When I catch a pup chewing on something they shouldn't, I tell them no and replace it with one of their own toys. It doesn't take long for them to grasp the fact that they can destroy their own stuff, but not yours! I've saved all my shoes and other belongings by sticking to my own rule! :-)...See MoreNew Arkansas Herb Grower... nice to meet you. Any helpful hints?
Comments (22)Congrats on your new gardening adventure!! I wish I had easy access to horse manure for composting. Too bad you're not my neighbor AR Dramaqueen, I'd GIVE you all the perennial herbs you could want. Every year I beg friends and family and yes even strangers to come and take divisions from my yard. Herbs are very, very easy to grow in the ground but in my experience hard to keep happy in pots. If you can make a herb bed somewhere in the yard your herb gardening venture will be so much easier. Particularly when starting seeds, moisture levels are critical. You may want to check locally to see if there are any other herb gardeners close to you. Most gardeners are thrilled to take you on a tour and provide you with starter divisions. I still remember my dad taking me to a "yard sale" when I was about 10 years old. An elderly lady was selling her daylily plants in preparation for moving to a retirement village. We took an instant shine to each other and she spent a lot of time showing me how to pollinate flowers to make new hybrids, how to divide and set plants, etc. You could see that she had a lifetime passion for gardening and was happy to "set the seed" in another person. By the end of our visit to her yard I had a station wagon full of lovely plants and a head full of information. I don't know that she even let my dad pay her for the plants, I can't remember. I do remember that 6 or 7 years later my high school science project was on hybridizing daylilies and that I credited Pansy Corriher for the information and starter plants....See MoreMeet Oh, My Gravey! New kitten.
Comments (48)SO many beautiful cats! Thanks for sharing all the photos, girls. Gravey has had a wonderful day. After she used her box this morning, she was allowed to roam the house, with supervision. The other cats caught glimpses of her and she met 2 of them nose to nose, Sammie and Parker. Sammie was a little nervous of her and Parker hissed and spit some but no one attacked her. Yay. So she played and wandered and I left to run errands. She spent about 1.5 hours napping in her daddy's lap and he was trying to get stuff done but refused to disturb her! lol He IS a softie. We have a rule here- if there's a cat in your lap, you are "pinned" and the other person has to wait on you, whatever you need. Unfortunately for him, though, he was home alone! lol Now I'm home and she's been upstairs playing with a little mousie toy that Parker loves. Parker watched her and behaved well, but isn't playing with her yet. Maybe tomorrow. The dogs are behaving well, too. The adult ones are used to new cats, but the puppy is a little exuberant. Otherwise, though, Quigley is doing very well. All in all, it's going better than I'd hoped. Gravey slept in the office last night with her own huge litter box and food and water and when I turned her light out, she was cuddled up on a quilt in a rocking chair, all sleepy after a wash....See MoreMeet our new Little (big) Flower!
Comments (8)Annztoo - we found Poppie through one of our local rescues - I've had my eye on her for several weeks and somehow just KNEW she was our baby! Socks- Thank you!! we all love our yard and pool although the "kids" don't like to swim but do a great job playing lifeguard when we are in. We lost our sweet 15 1/2 year old Tasha in July and Sam ( and us) took it really hard. We knew we couldn't wait too long to find him a buddy and it has been SOOO good for him. He lost his precious sister and gained a much adored girlfriend ( grin) He loves to nibble on her - we call it Poppie on the cob and she loves it too....See Moredonna_loomis
