Meet Oh, My Gravey! New kitten.

If you click on the photo, you'll be able to see the other 3 photos. I'm still working on getting a really GOOD one, these are OK, but not great.

She is very playful and dare I say, nosey. Keeps jumping up into my lap for a cuddle, I love that! Babies are so much fun.

HUGE thanks to Jodi for the name, it's perfect. We love it, you are such a clever cookie!

I've always been partial to calicos. I've had two, Patches and Yahtzee :-)

I agree with using plastic forks, but you also need to encourage them to look for an alternative place to use, which is not located on your property. If you simply deter them from the pots, they may, on their own choose a different spot in your garden which bothers you even more. A simple solution, until you can find someone to rescue them is to, at the same time you install the plastic forks in your pots, pour some small mounds of sand about double the diameter of your pots onto the vacant lot in an area which will not bother you, but make sure it is an equal distance from where the mother nests them and where they currently find your pots. weekly either use a litter sifter to locate and discard the feces or give them a new small pile of sand poured a short distance from their previously used sand, but which faces away from your lot. Once you have installed the plastic forks in your pots, if you find that the cats do start or already are using your garden or flower beds, simple begin the process of mulching those beds with dried pine cones. Insert each pinecone's base a few inches deep into the soil, while keeping 2-3 inches sticking out above ground level. Keep in mind though that if the soil is already very acidic, then lime might have to be added to your beds to counteract additional acid, if any, that the pinecones add to the soil.

It was hard, tibs, but the fact is that DH and I learned from experience that we are comfortable with two cats and that three pushes us over the edge. Also, I just prefer male cats, another decision based on experience. The shelter is having a big shindig tomorrow with a lot of guests, and I don't fear for a moment that the little girl will be adopted. I won't be able to pick up the boys until Thursday, and their presence with her tomorrow will probably focus more attention on her than if she were alone in a cage. But I did think that she would be lonely without her brothers, and knowing about the shindig helped me feel better about that.

Lisa, as explained, Ragdoll is a breed and it's sometimes confused with similar breeds but Ragdolls have unique patterns of color all their own but all are born white and take several years to fully develop their pattern. Lots of people think they found a ragdoll and there are certainly many listed as such on Petfinders that are not Ragdoll - there are subtle differences in the patterns from birman etc. Ragdolls have gorgeous blue eyes and that most fabulous soft fur. My girls are about 14 pounds and the two boys are over 21 pounds and they are not fat, just large cobby shaped bones and well, large cats. Their breed standard calls for a cat that can be larger than Maine coon cats. The plus with a large cat is that they can get into things most cats can't reach - my silly boys like to rumage through tall garbage cans LOL Toilets lids are kept shut so no unofficial drinks. They are very laid back, lazy cats. Sue, I don't think you'll have any problems introducing a kitten to an adult male but I'm not certain. Our girls were about 3 years old when we adopted the two boys who were about a year and a half old. LOL we had this plan for a slow introduction but Ragdolls are strong, large and smart. Either the girls or the boys kept opening the doors to the room where we were keeping the boys. LOL We used a skipping rope to try to tie the door shut - silly things managed to get that undone too. So our carefully planned introduction took about an hour with all the cats running all around the house and finally settled down and that was it. I have to say when they run around the house they sound like a herd of elephants - so much for delicate, graceful moves. I also think Max might just be thrilled to have a play mate because he's just a big kitten himself. Max still has some growing to do - they take about 4 years to fully mature. Does he do the Ragdoll flop - that is where they are walking across the floor and just out of the blue decide to go from standing to flopped all over the floor? Most cats sit and then lie down and then sprawl, but ragdolls just flop to a sprawl. They are the most dog like of cats, greet you, want to be with you and are very docile. Shelayne....thanks! Not quite sure how I feel about the LG yet....I think the cycles are too long....DH and I work in offices...do our clothes really need to wash for an hour? I think the shortest cycle is speedw wash and I think its 35 min....which was about how long my 15 year old Maytag did any cycle. And water temperature is pre selected,maybe you can override it buti haven't figured out how yet. Drying seems to take longer than my Maytag as well. But boy, can you fit a lot without an agitator! I've only had it a month and I probably need to read the manual some more, but the jury's still out...

I'm partial to calicos as well. Someone once told me they are lucky. I think SHE's lucky you found her!

What a cutie! I was hoping for a calico when Miss Kitty had kittens but got 1 gray tabby, 1 dark taby and a black one. We forgot how much fun kittens are and how destructive they can be! We're keeping the black one, Tuffy.

I finally had to MAKE myself stop looking at all of your beautiful quilt pictures!

GravEy, lol, and Nosey Parker haven't really met yet. I think I'll let them sniff each other on me and under the door to the bathroom until tomorrow. Slow and steady keeps anyone from getting killed. :) And there are 3 boy cats to win over, too.

And technically, Woody didn't GO to get her, he was already there, spending more money on his stray dog and her stitches when he told them that if she was still there on Friday, to let me know. Then as he was leaving, he got all soft-hearted and caved in. My dad happened to be there with his cats at the time so he carried her to the truck where she rode in his arms all the way home. But yes, he is sweet and kind. And not stupid. He knows I can't complain about having another dog if I have another cat! lol

Gee- all I can think of is I hope your or your husband don't happen upon a stray baby elephant tomorrow. From what I've been reading it wouldn't surprise me a bit if you brought it home, gave him it's own room and named it Roamin (roaming, get it).

Now how is the new puppy doing with all the felines?

Gravey is adorable and Stewey is a handsome fella. I've never seen a black and white with those facial markings.

Oh, my......she's super-sweet!! Good thing I have a calico of my own. And when Stewie showed up I had to remind myself that I have a black kitty, too. Cats are so beautiful.....

What a darling kitty! NP is going to have fun showing her the ropes! I have also had a couple of calicos in my life (Marbles and Teaser) and they have always been cats with a lot of personality. Love yours Flamey!

What a sweet, sweet kitty!! Congratulations. I think everyone should have a calico at least once in their life. Here is mine - Speckles. I think you may have to wait a few years before you will get any "still" pictures of that sweet girl. How fun for you and what a nice husband to have too.

I so wish I weren't deathly allergic to cats, I would love to have a sweet little kitty like her. Congrats, she is adorable. Guess I'll have to stick with my hypoallergenic poodles, which I adore.

SO many beautiful cats! Thanks for sharing all the photos, girls.

Gravey has had a wonderful day. After she used her box this morning, she was allowed to roam the house, with supervision. The other cats caught glimpses of her and she met 2 of them nose to nose, Sammie and Parker. Sammie was a little nervous of her and Parker hissed and spit some but no one attacked her. Yay. So she played and wandered and I left to run errands. She spent about 1.5 hours napping in her daddy's lap and he was trying to get stuff done but refused to disturb her! lol He IS a softie. We have a rule here- if there's a cat in your lap, you are "pinned" and the other person has to wait on you, whatever you need. Unfortunately for him, though, he was home alone! lol

Now I'm home and she's been upstairs playing with a little mousie toy that Parker loves. Parker watched her and behaved well, but isn't playing with her yet. Maybe tomorrow. The dogs are behaving well, too. The adult ones are used to new cats, but the puppy is a little exuberant. Otherwise, though, Quigley is doing very well.

All in all, it's going better than I'd hoped. Gravey slept in the office last night with her own huge litter box and food and water and when I turned her light out, she was cuddled up on a quilt in a rocking chair, all sleepy after a wash.

Thanks for admiring the new baby, ladies! We're enjoying her (more than the other cats are!)

All quilts are fair game around here, except I did put one away because the new pup was looking interested in chewing on it. Eeek! It's funny though how a quilt just seems to attract cats. Maybe it's the texture.

Gravey is one lucky girl! Just love her markings and what a sweet face! It seems like pure love and contentment is shining from her pretty eyes. :)

All the cats shown are real beauties and no doubt well taken care of...wish all animals could know how that feels.
