True Lime powder storage

I bought a container of TrueLime powder for something or other. Although it took me a little time to get used to I now find myself using all the time. My only issue is that it congealed into a lump. Or a few lumps. I can pry off a bit but it is a pain. It there some way to store it that minimizes clumping? Humidity proof spice container? I thought about a mason jar but I do like to shake it out.

I'm not familiar with this, so I can't help, but I do dry lime peel (without the pith) in the oven and whirl it in a food processor to make lime powder. I keep some in a little baggie and some combined with sea salt in small jar that has one of those lids that has thin layer of rubber on the underside. It doesn't get clumpy. Perhaps try a jar type container? I just use a tiny spoon or clean fingers : )

I just put the packets inside a mason jar with the lid screwed on tight. Seems to work.

The cost of a DIY SWP can vary a lot depending on what you use. A couple of cheaper options could be to: 1: use 2 5gallon buckets (few bucks at home depot) with a ziploc food storage container (make holes) as a wicking basket. I think you can find some plans online. You won't be able to plant as many things compared with an 18 gallon container though. 2. use some other type of inverted basket (make more holes) from walmart which could serve as both shelf and provide wicking area around the edges. I've used some items like below to make some sub irrigation containers: walmart 1 18 gall tote 4.80 (sterilite 18 gallon) walmart lg basket 3.50 (mainstays storage basket) walmart pott soil 9.00 (expert gardener) walmart dolom lime <.10 for lbs bag can make many>walmart fertilizer <.50 for lbs can make many>home depot pvc pipe <.50 for can make>total is

Ken - thanks for the link; I just purchased 1.6# bag for future use. And thanks to all of you for the info on lime and alum - I've saved this in my canning recipe folder for future reference. For those of you who may need it -here's Ken's proportions for the calcium chloride: "The Ball Pickle Crisp photo is located in another post about this product. According to the Ball package, they use 1.5 teaspoons per quart and 3/4 teaspoon per pint. Because of the larger granule size of the Bulk Foods CC, I recommend 2 teaspoons per quart and 1 teaspoon per pint jar of pickles. I add it just prior to filling each jar with the brine. But it can also be added at the top of the packed cukes just before they get the boiling brine added. In that step, you do hear a fizzing noise when the acid comes in contact with the alkali CC. Oi, somehow I missed this reveal! I remember way back talking about the lights and backsplash and they BOTH are divine in your finished space. It's just an amazing remodel. Everything is so integrated and the flow/workspaces seem so thought out. I'm curious about the Task lighting and outlets, too. We'll be using some kind of plugmold in our remodel - and I need to start getting my head around undercounter lighting, too. I really do love your pendants... they seem like they have zero glare. It is absorbing moisture from somewhere. Either a lid that is not sealing properly or you may be sprinkling over steaming food?. Doesn't take much.

My spice jars have a seal ring like ball jars.

I also have moisture absorbers, medical grade, that you find in your aspirin, etc. You could use one of those right from a medication.

Dry beans or popcorn will absorb moisture. If you can get the clumps out, run it through your spice grinder, then do one of the above.

If it has one of those foam-like seals when you open for the first time, take a sharp knife or snap-blade and cut around on the inside edge, leaving a ring of the foam intact so it will remain as a sealer when the lid is put back on.

Many of the spice jars that have the pop-up sections on the lid do not seal well at all.

Probably a bunch of other tricks out there....

The True Lime I am familiar with comes in little packets about the size of a sugar or sweetener packet you get in a restaurant. I have never seen it in bulk. I just open the box when new and put the packets in a mason jar.

I don't use that brand. I use powdered lime/lemon/orange peel powders...

But it is crystalized lemon/lime. Gives the citrus punch where one would normally squeeze a lemon/lime wedge. Not as good as fresh but better than skipping it. Especially in locals where lemons are expensive. (like here)

Great for juices, in seltzer, spice rubs, sauces, dressings, low/no-salt diets....

Yes, I keep it on hand for when I don't have a lemon or lime in the house. I usually do try to always have fresh, usually lemons, limes mostly in the summer, for mojitos. Trader Joe's has bags of organic fresh lemons and also limes for a really reasonable price and they last in the refer a long time, so I am seldom out.
