Planning a weird Thanksgiving

Mr. Picky has been lowly and isn't really up to the long drive and crowded rooms, so I'll be making a T'day feast for 4 in a very ill equipped kitchen. :) I was told today that the only sharp knife is a steak knife! So, I'll bring my cookware and buy a well rated cheap(ish) knife to leave there.

My projected menu will be a classic two proteins, potatoes, gravy, corn, hot vegetable, salad and dessert. BUT, with Mr. Picky's food preferences at the fore. But it will be boutique because the other two will be joining their other families later in the day, and Mr. Picky isn't eating so much.

Oy!

This is going to be so weird! Other than when I was living abroad when I was young, I've never been to Thanksgiving with no turkey, and this will be my first since it became my job when I was fourteen when I won't be making guacamole. I guess I used up the guacamole vibes on the Halloween puking pumpkin...

So, I'm thinking beer battered shrimp (red Argentine from TJ's freezer which come out well--plus bringing one of my mother's Wagner frying pans), prime ribeye steak to be portioned and shared around (and a stop gap if something bad happens to the shrimp), scratch mashed potatoes like I learned to make last year with y'all's help (not something we usually eat, but very T'day-ish and Mr. P likes them), corn on the cob, ditto, pumpkin gravy, green beans or something similar depending on what looks good, a chopped style vegetable salad with berries which I can make at home, and brownies because Mr. P likes them. I think I'll make everything at home except the steak and shrimp. The rest should travel well.

I still may make pies for the Thanksgiving cousins if the logistics work.

Does the menu sound Thanksgiving enough to you? It's sounding better the more I repeat it...
