Comments (6)Wenonah, I'm sorry to hear you have been sick. I had an episode of heat exhaustion yesterday with the 12 hour chills, vomiting and crushing headache that followed. I'm feeling better today but it will be a few days before I'm back to normal I think. I was a dummy and went out digging in the middle of the day.. didn't know it was that hot until I started seeing stars. Hope you are feeling better. Don't you dare go out if you're not feeling well. We'll trade when it's cooler, but please save me some of your Sadie Rae Hydrangea cuttings! :)...See MoreWe must have had enough ketchup this week
Comments (1)LOL. That's cute and congrats to your daughter. It's a sticky wicket having sibling children close in age. Doesn't matter if they are different sexes, there is usually a friendly competition thingie going on. Was with mine. He gets in gifted classes, she expects to. She makes NHS, he expects to. He is a promising athlete, she has to do one better. It worked out well, as it made them both work more on living up to their potential. I miss my kids' high school days. I completely enjoyed them, and for some reason they didn't go through the pubescent angst so common in that age group. They were just pleasant, bright and fun kids who had good friends. All parents should be so fortunate....See MoreHelp! I Have a large family and I can't fill them up!
Comments (4)We don't have a large family (yet), but we recently catered our own wedding, with 70 people, so I learned a few things! The smartest thing we did, was to shop at a wholesale, discount place. We went to Costco's (others: "BJ's" and "Sam's"). I noticed a lot of people with large families there. Not only is it cheaper, but the large sizes really inspire you to do batch-cooking. Here was one recipe we loved, which freezes well, is easy to reheat, and was well tailored to the portions at Costco...Quesadillas (similar to fajitas): 1 large bag of grated cheese (about 5 lbs for $11!) 20-30 tortillas any combo of pre-cooked veggies or meat We went vegetarian, using onions, mushrooms and peppers--but try spinach, zucchini, chicken, anything that's on sale! Even just plain cheese works. Fill the tortillas with the stuff. Fold them in half (omelette-style). Then, stack them and put them in a bag and freeze (I put saran wrap between each one to keep them from sticking together, but it may not have been necessary). To cook, just grill, fry, or toaster-oven them (I like to thaw them, then toaster-oven for 10-15 minutes). Microwave probably works too. We bought a big-sized container of salsa to go with it, and some sour cream. These are soooooo yummy, I promise your kids will love them. Total servings: 20-30 Total cost (at Costco's): $20-$30, including veggies & salsa...See MoreWhen you must have had a terrible childhood.....
Comments (62)A couple of years ago I had posted about a mystery item I found in my mom’s utility room cupboard. Had a lot of suggestions that seemed to make sense on the surface, except that they didn’t. I think it was a few months later that a someone who actually had one was able to solve the mystery. Mind you, it‘s kind of a specialized tool, so I think I can be forgiven for not knowing what it is. Anyway, now I am reminded to reach out to the local bonsai society to see if someone wants it. Mystery object, not a long thread...See Morepalimpsest
