Help me paint my house!
my house has red brick and I have NO IDEA what color to paint it! The windows are new and are white, which is throwing me off!
painting the brick is out of the question..Sadly, my husband is anti-brick painting.
The brown roof is also causing me heartache!
help, please!

One on the prominent banding, one on the rest of the walls. If they are pale grey and a slightly darker grey you would enhance the horizontals subtly, and have the pillar of yellow and grey stone standing out. Comments (51)Hello all - so we have a couple weeks to finalize the paint color and I am really leaning towards SW Naval on the siding & Colonnade Gray on garage door. Naval is a bit lighter than the original navy I posted earlier (Anchors Aweigh). As mentioned the shutters are less than a year old and we don’t want to paint them. The dark navy should hopefully tie in pretty well with the shutters. If they don’t we can always paint the shutters later. The front door has been ordered and will be painted the same as siding. 5 years agoTo get more suggestions, add more clear photos to your next comment. Such as a closeup of your brick and the full front of your home.
This one is Benjamin Moore Sparrow and White Dove trim. It doesn't have your brown roof though. It does look less choppy because the paint has enough depth to balance the brick.
Another thing to look at is matching your mortar between the bricks for your paint choice.

The house was built in the '60's, and to me has always looked very squatty.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoMy house is also one storey built in the 60's but a hip roof, not your gable roof. I'm about a 2 1/2 miles from Lake Ontario on the Canadian side!
The brick looks just fine in your close up photo. Get some paint samples of BM Copley Grey, Elephant Tusk and Sparrow to see how they look against the brick and a roof shingle. You want something that makes the horizontal division between the brick and siding/stucco merge if you want your home to look less squatty. You need darker paint for the body of your home than you may think. You could look to your mortar color for trim.
Have you considered midcentury modern or slightly contemporary accents? Does the concept of embracing the linear lines of your home appeal to you? A cedar garage door that would repeat your roof color in a good way. Recessed pot lights along the front soffit. No shutters.
Photos below; two sided wide steps entry, cedar garage door and clean lined lighting, MCM house numbers. If that's a metal garage door, you might even be able to gel stain it to appear to be cedar.

The garage door will be going, doesn't work.
The porch needs to be opened, I so agree! Away with the crazy lattace and pole after pole!
Now, I love the trim ideas that you have mentioned and included photos of. Could you tell me, when you speak of the middle of the home, should I do a reddish from the brick? Or could I go crazy and do a blue?!
I've attached a little idea for the porch and a couple blues I was throwing around. what do you think??

5 years agoSorry for the confusion, no red paint intended! Lol! I meant using BM Copley Grey, Sparrow, yes, blue is certainly an option with your brown roof. I meant choosing a paint color that is the same depth, NOT the same color as your overall brick appearance. So there is less contrast of light and dark helping your home look taller. IF you find it choppy or squatty with light on the top and dark on the bottom. You could try using the SW visualizer, I tried but your photo is too shady to 'paint'. Your porch idea has more appeal, maybe the right side could join to the house, one handrail only. It would be nice to have a sidewalk going further down the drive where a 2nd visitor car would park.
This home is SW Bracing Blue, LRV is 25. Your blue choice Endless Sea LRV is 9.

This one doesn't have white windows, big budget for craftsman accents makeover.Ben Moore Bear Creek, too grey for you, but, see how the house looks taller with the paint being the same depth of color as the brick. If it was a light color, it would look totally different. It might look great, but different.
