Biking with your dog?
Comments (8)Bikes are a great way to exercise once you get the trick and have a safety attachment! I use a bike attachment to go out with my border collie. It is made by Springer. It is a U-shaped tube with a coil within to absorb a bit of tug-pulling as we go. It also has a safety release for a *major* snag. It aims the dog to the side of the bike so they can run beside you. Also he wears a harness while running to reduce any jerking risk as well. Stay away from models that aim the dog to run behind the bike as dogs will naturally try to run beside you and in the process create tug and friction on the back of the bike as they try to outrun the attachment. Not good! We tried and returned one. My pup runs faster than I pedal as it is and he certainly didn't want to run behind me! :P So far it has worked very well for us. No accidents and he picked up the concept of running with the bike very fast. He knows 'leave it', 'slow' and 'whooaa/stop' from running with me, which help considerably. There always is the temptation of a squirrel or duck as we go down trails, but he has yet to knock us over or even tried - usually when we get going he is focused on running and not looking around much....See More'Can I pet your dog?'
Comments (23)The post about walking dogs after dark I have to comment on. I live in a middle class suburb area with quite a few dogs and kids. But it is astonishing how many late walkers/dog walkers/bike riders/joggers do not show any common sense. Less than 10% carry a flashlight or blinker light or wear a reflective vest! The street lights are spotty, and not all streets have sidewalks. The man across the street from the pit bull that attacked two dogs and a person -- didn't even know they had a dog six months after the attack. Even though both parties had lived there for more than ten years. Four years ago my dog and I met a teen age girl riding her bike on the sidewalk. It was very dark and I heard her bike only because my MP3 player battery went out. We moved off to the side and she rode her bike past (without a light or helmet). How luck for her that my battery went out I thought. My dog is calm and friendly, but he would have blocked her path and barked. And she would have gone off the sidewalk and crashed. The blinker light on the dogs collar did not affect her brain enough to walk the bike before she reached us. GOOD Flashlight Blinker / Strobe light Reflective Vest Common sense!...See MoreFinishing basement floor?
Comments (11)Sophie Wheeler- do you know anything about grinding the surface? Is there a machine that would sand down the rough areas? I would like to do that whether or not we epoxy it. What type of contractor would I need to do that? If I were to use a garage epoxy like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-EpoxyShield-2-gal-Dunes-Tan-Semi-Gloss-Professional-Floor-Coating-Kit-Case-of-2-238466/203853275 would that withstand bikes with gravel in the tires? I guess I should add that my kids are all 4 and under so for now they do end up on the floor which is why I was thinking the cleaner epoxy method might be useful. From these comments, it seems like epoxy isn't as durable as I was hoping? I ideally just wanted it to be outdoor durable but a little bit clean since I am sure they will be all over it....See MoreMy kitchen needs a refresh!
Comments (20)You've got good bones in this kitchen. Your cabinets are classic, granite is great, footprint is fine. I think paint will be your best friend for your cabinets. And because your kitchen is so classic, you can go with 2 colours. Definitely remove the granite on the backsplash and replace with tile. Also replace the cabinet hardware and hang either one big pendant or 2 smaller pendants above your island. What will be tricky is finding a new home for the microwave. What if you just replaced your island? You could paint your perimeter cabinets white and have a different colour for your island and use the same granite top. That way you could design a home for your microwave. You could even design an island with less deep cabinets so that you have room for a couple of stools and still use the same granite top. You'd have to check and see what the floor is underneath your existing island first....See Moreadellabedella_usa
