Need advise on windows in my bedroom refresh.
Comments (6)I would remove carpet now and put down an area rug until you can afford to install new flooring. (Old carpet kinda makes my skin crawl.) If it were me, I’d probably paint the floor after removing the rug. Paint it a color that blends with the area rug to make it less obvious where it sticks out from under the rug. I don't know a lot about drapes, so don’t really have a preference for rings or no rings. You won’t be opening and closing the drapes much, but if you do go without rings, make sure the rod pocket isn't so tight that you can’t move the drape if you want to. I know drapes are hung high these days, but I’ve never cared for the look of a cellular shade mounted above the window trim. I prefer inside mount, even if the trim is nothing to write home about. I love the color Tradewind and look forward to seeing your finished room!...See MoreMinimal Kitchen Refresh: kept my natural wood cabinets
Comments (36)Would still like to improve lighting, but options are very limited due to timberframe ceiling and inability to rewire anything. Wondering if adding more track-heads would help. All track heads are PAR30 gimbals with 50w equiv. LED bulbs. Not sure if anyone actually answered the question but the short answer is yes, what I would do is is move to a low voltage track heads with different beam spreads to get the light where you want it, and the smaller fixture will allow for more heads without looking cramped. You can also extend the track on either and with a joiner and a 2ft section of track , even make a corner to wrap it around a bit. You can also get extensions on the fixtures to drop them a bit lower to help get below the beam with the light in some places. I would also consider putting track where your pendants are now, you can actually hang pendants off track with adapters, but for now you could move to a par style bulb that forces the light down....See MoreMini refresh of my kitchen - away from Tuscany
Comments (130)Butternut, I'm thinking more of proportions like this (and yes, I realize yoru window is larger and wider), It would be about as long altogether as you have it now, but the longer part would the "drop" (I don't know what the correct term is, sorry!) before the swag rather than the swag itself. I think it also might look better to hang the roman shade higher, so that it's the same height as the cabinets. Which would give you more light/window AND more fabric. That might be worth playing around with....See More90s Honey Oak Kitchen Refresh Help Needed
Comments (5)If your goal is to lighten up the house, avoid adding dark things to the already dark rooms. Add lighting, remove heavy dark window coverings, and check outside to see if there are branches that have grown to block sunlight from the windows. Pruning at the right time of year for your area can let in much needed light again. Start by replacing the light fixtures to improve the overall "dark and brown" look. Remove the over-sink bar cabinets. Paint the walls. Staining the cabinets can't be done well without stripping them, sanding, filling, staining, sanding, and so on. Contact the cabinet company with photos of the damaged areas. Ask them what clear coat can be applied over the existing finish. Chances are good that a clear polyurethane over a bit of stain pen will fix up those worn areas easily....See MoreRelated Professionals
