Annie, What have you been up to Lately?
Comments (23)Ann T, Cooper is loving having me home more than anyone else, I think, although Makayla and Bud are having a ball playing with me. Elery, well, I'm not so sure, LOL. dcarch, I can't get actually livestock other than the cattle and horses, which can get a week's worth of food and water at a time, until I move out there. We'll get feeder pigs from one of the 4H kids in the spring and slaughter them in the fall, but breeding stock will have to wait until I'm actually living there. I'm kind of leaning toward Mulefoot hogs, as they pasture well, we'll see. I sure want to make some more homemade bacon, though. The Poulet de Bresse rarely makes it out of France, but there is a Canadian variety of the Bresse called Blue Foot. It was nearly eradicated during the Avian flu scare but I understnad remaining stock is in California, so maybe, someday. The flavor is supposed to be far superior to other varieties. Having never eaten it, I can't remark on that. The girls do want to get some laying hens though, all different varieties, LOL. As long as I get good fresh eggs, I guess I don't care, I'd get half a dozen different heirloom varieties but they have to be sturdy enough to withstand Michigan winters without frostbite to their combs, etc. So, big gardens, fresh eggs, farm raised pork, oh yeah, I'm looking forward to eating well. And, of course, Elery is planning an outdoor, wood fired bread/pizza oven. Annie...See MoreWhat Have You Been Doing Lately?
Comments (10)I too am recuperating from a cold that has run through the family. DH has it now. I have never had this happen: the sinus infection has made everything I put in my mouth taste spoiled for a week now, even toothpaste and water. I made some split pea soup, but I could not taste it to decide what I needed to do to adjust the flavor. Finally guessed at it and DH says it went from bland to quite good. He will finish it off today, and then I want to make some cream of carrot soup, a recipe we like that I discovered in my Joy of Cooking. Hope I can guess at adjusting the seasoning for that soup too. I have spent the week knitting layette items for my younger son's best friend who is expecting her first child in the spring. Right now I am knitting Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket, which is knit all in one piece. The thing looks like an amoeba, and then you fold it up and sew two seams at the sleeves, and voila, a cute garter stitch cardigan. Next I want to knit matching booties and will select a new-to-me garter stitch pattern for them. We won't know the sex of the baby till after he or she is born, and I will crochet the name afghan after the announcement arrives. In the meantime, my son has told me the mother is not fond of all the pinks and pastel blues, so I must find some other colors for little things I want to knit. I am thinking white, red and then who knows. I'll make a newborn vest in white and another cardigan or two with matching booties. For boys, I love using super wash wool sock yarn for cute booties, so I will check out the neutral variegated sock yarns too. We are so excited for this couple who have been trying to start a family for over a year....See MoreWhat Have You All Been Doing Lately?
Comments (20)Working a lot right now. We have a new exchange student. His host parents moved on him and so I agreed to take him in for the rest of the year. He's from Taiwan. Getting ready to take vacation in 2 1/2 weeks so all my days are crammed together, with only one day off in between a bunch in a row. Just before vacation I work 8 in a row. Lauren and I are going to Vegas to see George Strait in concert at the beginning of February. Then I thought I'd go up north to see my dad. He's 88 and just had a pacemaker placed after complaining of chest pain in the night to his doc. He's still in the hospital in Reno waiting for a rehab bed. He's actually doing really good, eating 3 meals a day in the hospital. He doesn't eat at home and had lost a lot of weight....See MoreWhat have you all been up to lately? Hhhhhmmmmmmm.......?
Comments (39)Yesterday back to back riding /horsemanship lessons. The groundwork is fun but brutal on my under-conditioned, aging body but I am getting a lot stronger and healthier each day. Too much sun and wind. Felt a bit off in the evening. Flushed and cold. Hand and Foot game in the evening. Rope burn on my inner arm. Don't know how I got it. Fine today but a bit tired. Dentist called so I went in for an impression today, then Lowes for a new head rail for a blind. Recently bought a garden bench and tables for part of the yard where we put up a new shed so i looked at garden fencing while at Lowes. Stopped for a Subway sandwich on way home. Have to get ready and leave shortly for my western riding class. Then maybe a movie to wind down if I'm not too tired. Dressing like a pirate for a costume luncheon tomorrow. Have to get ready for that too. I have to get DH's papers together to fax to his employment lawyer. Fit a shopping trip in for groceries, go visit the grand kids, find someone to install a window and a sliding door (not a replacement so it will require carpentry), get blood work done and somehow fit in an appointment with my hearing doc and get my annual eye exam. Hair appointment on Friday. I really like the second table Nicole....See Moremamapinky0
