Vinyl Plank wood-look flooring in bathroom

I've read a bunch of the threads here regarding LVT but still didn't get a good feel for consensus. A lot of the threads were old or not specific to the bathroom. And not surprising, it seems to be manufacturer specific too as to quality.

We went by a Floor and Decor this weekend looking for wall tile but saw their selection of LVT stuff and I honestly had not considered that. They are claiming full waterproof at the seams, but the spec sheets are not showing what kind of loading (we have a heavy furniture vanity and iron clawfoot tub), or what the wear-layer thickness is.

We would like wood-look in the bathroom but obviously true hardwood and laminate are out. We found a porcelain wood-look we like that was only $5/sft or so for pretty big planks at my local tile shop, so that's the front runner.

But the project is way over time, so getting floors in fast will go a long way to letting me tile the shower, accent wall, etc.

So what are the thoughts on the LVT wood planks in the bathroom? Regrets, happy with the install?

Are you planning to float the vinyl? If so, it can't go under the cabinets, etc.

There are 2 main kinds of vinyl plank floors. The ones that you glue down, and the more recent ones that are floating, clickable systems. Both types of floors have top layers of vinyl, and are waterproof. The clickable systems have special-made locking seams that keep the water from getting to the subfloor. The glue down kind is used all the time in both kitchens and bathrooms, and the clickable ones have been more recently as well. Karndean makes a beautiful glue down material, and their website should show you where theres a dealer. If not, depending on where you're located, we can help you with that. COREtec makes a great floating vinyl plank, and you can also find a dealer on their website. VINYL PLANKING IN NEW BATHROOM

I'm following because we are thinking about doing this in our kids'/guest bathroom since we have a good amount of leftover vinyl plank flooring from our downstairs area. If we can put off the bathroom project long enough, I want to see how it wears downstairs. When we purchased the house, the bathrooms had "groutable vinyl" squares which is kind of the worst of everything. New master bath remodel has tile and it's beautiful but already a month into it, I've got some grout cleaning concerns with the floor and I definitely can tell that it's colder than the vinyl squares (but so much nicer, of course). Our vinyl planks are long and much better looking and they suit the layout of the hall bath and they feel nice underfoot and clean up wonderfully and will save us a good amount of $ on install (besides already having them sitting here) BUT my worry is that we are sort of committed then once everything is installed. Maybe not so much if we decide not to do a floating vanity. I'd say we are 70% yes and 30% no on the vinyl planks at this point of our pondering. The price point on our house/neighborhood does not merit "fancy" finishings and we already have vinyl downstairs so the bathroom is not going to be a deal breaker, assuming it wears well over time. Ha ha - maybe I just convinced myself to to 80/20. Tile is surely a safer bet, though.

Yes, I am extremely displeased and will never call him again. That is for sure! Back to original question -- you say not possible. My only choice is to spend a few more thousands to correct the first blunder and watch the installer like a hawk. You really have to be vigilant and watchful. Sigh. Lots of great contractors around, and he was one I though. ty

Click and float. If I had to glue it down, I would just do porcelain, since I'm pretty good at tile work (I just have soooo much more tile work to do)

Why can't it go under cabinets? I would figure any expansion might be hindered, but could expand the other way (not a very large room, maybe 6' wide to the shower wall.

The vanity is a RH furniture vanity, so the feed are on sliders anyway. Floor will take the weight, but with minimal contact area for any relative motion. Clawfoot tub is the same.

It needs room for expansion, and it can’t do that under cabinets. If you read the manufacturer’s install instructions, all say it will void your warranty if you install under cabinets etc. Glue down is no problem, but all the click and float I’ve seen needs to be around cabinets and also needs 1:4 to 9/16” expansion around the edges.
