Paint Suggestion for Windowless powder room
Comments (45)Here's what I did with mine. The color didn't photo well here but it's a very pale yellow. Hand painting is cooler than wallpaper because you can do things like this (I couldn't continue the design because it was headed to a place where the cabinet was mere inches from the wall and I couldn't get in there). And if you're ever tired of it, you can paint it back out in minutes. Anyway, I dunno how good it looks in pictures, but everyone who sees the room in person gasps in surprise and then says nice things about it, and it wasn't that hard to learn how to do it -- you can do something like this if you want, or any number of faux treatments... like I really like the shiny and dull stripes in the same color paint if you're into a more modern look, and the beadboard if you're into a warmer look. :) Did you look at the bathrooms thread in the Gallery?...See MorePowder room accent wall ideas?
Comments (10)There is a relatively new product called Motion by AKDO (a tile maker). It's a slate composite that is engineered and adhered to a backing (similar to wall paper). Has the advantage of being able to wrap corners or cylindrical surfaces, and is of course quite thin compared to real stone. It does need a pro (not wallpaper installer) to install it but installation is a fraction of the cost of a tile or stone install. I think we did this one below for about $400 (not including the cost of the product). We've done a few fireplace surrounds with it as well. Interesting look. Something different....See MoreCritique my 900 sq. ft. modern home design PLEASE
Comments (60)My husband just pointed me to this story from Port Perry Ontario (he had siblings in Port Perry several years ago). The Golden Girls of Port Perry Lifted from that article: The national median monthly cost of a private room in a nursing home in the U.S. is $8,365, according to Genworth Financial, which means it costs more than $100,000 annually to live in a retirement home, and the price tag is only going up. Even if you have to "hire in" cleaning help, etc., aging-in-place is a whole lot cheaper than a nursing home. Of course, that's a nursing home -- not assisted living. Some communities here have gotten so far as declaring that first cousins aren't close enough family members to live together. That particular case was a household of grandmother and her two granddaughters. After grandma's death, the two cousins inherited the home and continued to live there but the local government was trying to force them to leave. I've never heard of this, but I don't see ... - How it's enforceable. If I let you come live in my house, who's going to say no? Assuming, of course, we're both law abiding citizens, who can say what happens inside my house? And if "they" do say no, how are they going to make you leave my house? - How it's possible, given society's widespread acceptance of unmarried couples living together as if married /though not married? I mean, if you can live with a guy you just met last week, why is it not okay to live with your cousin? - How it's possible, given that young people have always looked for roommates as a way of keeping their rent low? If this isn't okay, then college dorms are just plain wrong....See MoreLIGHTING HELP! 24ft Vault over kitchen & pantry/powder room/hallway.
Comments (2)Build that out as another upstairs room. Pot lights are completely useless at 24’. Track lighting, lamps, and giant pendants like you’d find at city hall or a church are the only options. The whole thing is much to tall for actual functionality. Cut it in half and it’s still over height. It’s a big fat F for the architect. Vaults that bisect areas are another F....See MoreSeeker Curious
