Comments (6)We are BGE people so we have a BGE that we smoke in built into the counter. People do build in Webers. Here is a link https://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?18214-Outdoor-Kitchen-with-build-in-for-Kettle. It even has links to pics where this was done. We opted not to have a fridge or a sink in our outdoor kitchens. We did not want the hassle of winterizing the sink and drainage was annoying. With respect to the fridge, it just did not seem like it would get enough use. Even if we entertain once a week during the nice season, we are paying to run it all the rest of the week and offseason. Plus you have to remember to cycle the beverages do beer, soda, and condiments at the back of the fridge do not get old since they are only for entertaining. We have not missed either of them even once....See MoreMini Split Outdoor Unit Between Buildings
Comments (3)The system I am considering is the Mr Cool DIY 24K mini-split. I have no idea how it compares to bigger brand names, but a professional install is simply out of my price range. I'm very experienced with construction, plumbing, and electrical (we built our own house), so the DIY aspect is inviting also. Finding workable locations for the indoor and outdoor units has been the biggest hurdle. We have a small house but there's very little space that isn't already being utilized with windows, cabinets, lights, etc.. We don't really use the space between the house and garage anyway, so putting the outdoor unit there would work out great if the clearances are acceptable. I also have plenty of room to move the unit side-to-side, so I should be able to avoid the coiled up line set so common with Mr Cool installs....See MoreNew Build: Outdoor Security Camera Trends: POE vs Nest or Simplisafe
Comments (7)Yes - I don't want a monitored security system. However they'll install one (traditional alarm system) as part of the house and I'll get a free year of service. After that I'll just let it expire. I think I can still use it as a stand-alone or un-monitored system after the 'free' year expires. I guess a POE camera system is closer to a traditional 'closed circuit' CC camera system. They come with a DVR or NVR that will be in your house somewhere. However I'll add that some of the better nest features do require a Nest Aware ($60/yr) or Aware Plus ($120/yr) subscription. Mostly that goes towards online storage space I think. thanks,...See MoreJ Lozano
