I like that lamp there. I think you should try to tack or tie the cord along the least visible side of the table and see if that helps. Use masking tape for a quick test.

Command makes these clear cord holders. They are about an inch long and you can press the cord into it. I used them on legs of a console to hide the cords from 2 lamps. And they don't damage the finish. Our local JoAnn Fabrics has a huge selection of Command products, you might check around.

Don't love the table with the rest of the furnishings, sorry, : ) Maybe use the lamp else where, get a bit larger and square table ( don't match the round cocktail) and use a standing lamp in this spot. Cord problem and proportions solved.

Agree that the lamp is too short. As suggested, I think a floor lamp is your best option.

i dont like round lamps on round tables. i'd go for a larger square table that would have better opportunity to mask the cord and have a place to set down a book and mug and reading glasses.....

I don't think the cord is unattractive. I think you need to consider form AND function -- most lamps need a cord to function : ) . There are cordless lamps, but they can be pricey. I'd look into those Command cord hooks but otherwise wouldn't worry about it.

However, I do agree that I think the lamp should be taller, especially to throw off better light for anyone sitting near the lamp and reading, writing, or sewing etc.

That table and lamp is really not the right solution for your room. You have such a great sense of scale for the rest of the room, I'm surprised you selecting a table that doesn't work for the room and a lamp that is way too small.

I agree that an accent table and floor lamp might be a better solution for the area, but in the meantime here is how a contemporary table and 30" table lamp would appear in the room.

You could also get a floor lamp that combines with a table, like this.

That cord is a problem. Someone, or some kid, or some pet is going to catch it in passing (trying to move between the sofa and table perhaps) and pull that lamp crashing to the ground. At least from the angle shown in your picture, I would call it a major safety hazard as is. You could wrap the cord around the table with command hooks, but it will look unsightly. And since there are several other options--why not use them?
