Can you make a lamp cordless?
Comments (18)The Thinkgeek.com link was a April Fools joke - just click on the "Buy Now"... The MIT link is legit. While there are companies developing and now selling charging mats, Intel has been working on and has demonstrated a much more robust system. They used resonate coupling to transmit enough power to light a 60 watt light bulb over two feet away at 75% efficiency of input power. Their latest published system specs use a 7 MHz frequency and can transmit power at 80% up to about 6 feet. Toll transponders can be either active with an internal battery for up to 300' transmission or passive with a much decreased but respectable range, and rely upon RF excitation from the reader for resonate transmission. I'm not sure if I'd want want to be in a room with RF power distribution, since I know don't know of many other people with a background in broadcast engineering that actually even condone keeping a cell phone in your pocket all day, but the concept does seem to have much more potential than previously thought. Comments (24)So I tried the couch across the room. I did like aspects about it, but think I would need a smaller profile sofa or maybe one with a chaise. And that is not in the plan in the near future. So I moved the TV back to long wall and will look for a new console, removed the curio, the tall table and positioned the arm chair away from the front door. So all of that is working. Haven’t hung picture yet. Need to get long drapes, curious what you all think on best color? I borrowed a green pair from another room and didn’t mind them. But I am partial to greens so not sure if my bias is at play. And or any other design ideas for example a tall lamp that would add dimension, different art, or what to do with my red vases? I like them and used them in that corner to hide cable cords, but get the sense they aren’t working. Or what to put under my window. Thanks for all the design and decor ideas....See MoreWhat to do with a small eat-in kitchen when a table isn't needed...
Comments (7)Would a storage bench for shoes next to the door make sense for you? Not sure how high the windows are. Average bench height is 18 inches. I liked the idea of having an armchair or conversation area-- somewhere to have a coffee or drink while someone is in the kitchen. You can easily test the use of this idea if you have a couple of extra dining chairs or accent chairs you can steal from other rooms. You'll want to add a drink or spot table....See MoreMy basement just isn't right
Comments (20)I think you have some great basics, but need to accesorize. maybe move some things around, try some DIY ideas. I say, NO to the bookcase. just doesn't work. Let me show you some other ideas that will ramp up the spot I love this one. I realize the colors aren't a match to yours, so ignore that. I like the pillows and colors that Sammy picked out for your sofa. but I like how this picture shows you how to accessorize w/wood, natural elements. I photoshopped this sliding door in place of your generic door. removed the bookcase and stuck in the baskets and the tree. I know this blue/gray doesn't work w/your colors, so you'd have to try something diff there. instead of bookcase (which if you MUST keep, paint it) what if you did open shelving for books and a little reading nook in the corner? You'd size this for your space, but it isn't difficult to DIY. I also think you should do something different for the media console. your sofa/recliner are rather casual, but not modern, and that black tv set up is. Plus, it's very dark and offers little interest. If you had a super modern white or gray floor, white walls, black leather furniture, I'd say OK. But you don't. I think if you used the entire wall and did something like this, it would be perfect! at the very least, try a console that's longer, a bit lighter, and fits the style to the room bette Livingston Media console. hang the tv on the wall, bring in simple vases. the style of this one fits your room too. notice the sofa table, the ottomans, the side tables placement of the chair. the wall treatment has sonces. a simple Ikea Hack. painted, and topped w/standard 1x6 wood boards. another simple DIY, media book cases for that one wall. they are unfinished base cabinets. you build a platform for them to sit on, paint, finish w/trim. leave the wall as is, or put up some tongue and groove shiplap, or planks, open shelving, mount your tv. you want a complete tutorial on how to makeover a basement? https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2019/01/diy-media-cabinet-built-in/ This is a console idea similar to the one right above. But she also shows you all of the other budget DIY ideas she did on her basement https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/category/crafts-and-diy/basement-media-room/ https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/category/crafts-and-diy/basement-makeover/ What if you paint the tv wall a soft black or try Urbane Bronze, or Iron Ore, Protege Bronze: it would look great w/your reds/mushroom colors. bring something w/the camel leather, textures like bamboo, throws, natural wood. I like this media console under the wall mounted tv on the darker wall. perhaps do the wall behind the table. add some sconces I love what they did to this room. so bright. and the bar area too Here's your bar.. Now look at this one. granted, you have upper cabinets, but you could do the open shelving on the other wall, or the little wall bar,,or the dart board. maybe try a table/chairs like this, paint the cabs a nice color, do a reflective or glass mosaic backsplash (I like the sofa table here too) some other colors that play well w/the red:...See Moreprodmod
