Finished our small powder room -- I mean small!
Comments (38)Patty-2010 -- I'm just now seeing your message about the picture of the red flowers. I believe it is a Pottery Barn framed print, but I myself got it at a yard sale. Don't you love it? And this should interest people who wonder whatever happens to the decor of rooms that people feature on this site -- I've made a few changes to the bath since I first posted. I'll post a photo when I get home later, but I'll tell you that we did change the hanging light, and I changed the picture. I know I said I never would, but we inherited a small chandelier from my sister in law, so we thought we'd go with a different style. Look for the photo later....See MoreHow small is too small for a bar sink?
Comments (3)What do you want to do with it? I have a small sink in a bar area--not in the kitchen--that is a rectangle. It is probably about 10 inches by 17. We don't really use it at all except that I keep a pitcher in there to fill and water plants by my front door. I would think about how you will use the sink. Will you need to put any certain pot/pan, etc. in there? If so, make sure it fits. Is is just to fill the coffeepot? I have a prep sink in my kitchen that is pretty big. Maybe 17x17. I made sure that my colander could fit in the sink. We use that sink a ton and have a disposal in it and also have a soap dispenser there. Think about the functionality of the sink. That is the key....See MoreHow small is too small for adding on an office?
Comments (25)I suggest you make a list of all the things you need to do /all the things you need to store in your office. Only once you've analyzed your personal needs can you determine exactly what's "enough" for you. Personally, we're going to have less office space than you are proposing ... but my husband's retired, and I'm very near retirement, so our "office needs" are very small. Consider these things: - Do you want an office just off the kitchen /living area so you can "be part of things" ... or do you want a spot in a more remote /quieter part of the house? - Where will you store books? Files? Wrapping paper? Craft items? Other unique items? - Do you need a spot to recharge laptops, tablets, phones? Don't skimp on electrical outlets. - Do you need to be able to close a door so you can have quiet /make a phone call /listen to music? In a small space, do consider the door swing; this might be a place for a pocket door. - What type of lighting do you need? This is not a skimp item. - Air circulation can be difficult in a small space. Consider a ceiling fan or a spot for a small fan on a shelf....See MoreHow small is too small for a bathroom
Comments (10)it's a kids bath. Will always be a kids bath. We have a separate guest room with shower on a different floor (and no, we want our kids on the same floor). As for "getting to the shower from the 2nd bath", there is a 2nd shower in the "new" bathroom. Agreed, it might be tight with the door opening and the toilet, but I would have to get exact measurements for that. "few years convienence"? It would be like 6 years, and since most people stay in houses for around 7 years (we are at 11 and will be here for 10+ more, god willing)...See Morefigureskater04
