How small is too small for a bar sink?

I want to put a sink on a little counter next to a miele coffee system. The counter will be 24" (over a micro drawer), then the sink. Do you think that a 13x13 (inside dimension) will be ok? I don't want to eat up too much space allocated to drawers, but I don't want the sink to be unusable either.

What do you want to do with it? I have a small sink in a bar area--not in the kitchen--that is a rectangle. It is probably about 10 inches by 17. We don't really use it at all except that I keep a pitcher in there to fill and water plants by my front door. I would think about how you will use the sink. Will you need to put any certain pot/pan, etc. in there? If so, make sure it fits. Is is just to fill the coffeepot? I have a prep sink in my kitchen that is pretty big. Maybe 17x17. I made sure that my colander could fit in the sink. We use that sink a ton and have a disposal in it and also have a soap dispenser there. Think about the functionality of the sink. That is the key.

If all you need is water for the coffee pot, and a drain, what about a pot filler (no hot water pipes) and a slot drain? If the P-trap can be installed sideways there would be room for the drawers. I think this must be the wave size (see link) but they are available in as small as 3" x 3" inner dimensions:

I understand what you mean by a hot house in summer. My mother has a similar yard as to what you describe. If you put in the vines suggested by greenwitch, they will help to reduce the heat and glare reflected by the block wall. You can put in a few flowering bushes to provide background height and additional shade. I think everything will naturally tie together once the space is filled in. Flowering plants are good companions for vegetables. Roses like onions and garlic.Nasturtiums, marigolds, and Santolina help to ward off insect pests. You can create height and visual interest by putting in a few blocks with a board across them for potted plants, or upending a large pot and placing another pot on top of it. Mulching would be a good thing, because of the heat contained in a small fenced garden. Depending upon your location, you could probably have a pretty good winter veggie garden in your yard. Kale, collards, broccoli, mustard greens, arugula, savoy, and others, can all grow well in winter if your climate isn't too harsh. Lorna

Beware that the nursery industry lies... Uhhh, gee thanks. :( But, "lies", no. That is an unfair statement. Dry gallons and liquid gallons aren't the same amount. 1 gallon, dry = 1.1636 gallons, liquid So what you are seeing in the nursery industry is a liquid gallon label since that is the U.S. Customary usage but which actually hold the equivalent dry gallon measurement of a dry material like potting soil. A 5 gallon nursery pot will hold 5 gallons of water (if you plug up the drain holes) it just won't hold 5 gallons of potting soil. A 5 gallon paint bucket (liquid) = 4.3 dry gallons. I'd go larger, within reason, if you have the space. You can always get a cutting board or other tool to cover part of it if you need the workspace. Plus you can put a bowl or tub of water in it to make two basins if needed. With a smaller sink you can't do anything to make it bigger, other than put a tub on you counter as a second bowl.

You are correct on the reason of suckering. You stress the plant - and it goes into "I need to propagate before I die" mode. If your starter is supposed to be fantasy, chimera, bicolor - I would let one bloomstalk to open early, so you know if it blooms true - otherwise - it is a sport - and you need to get rid of it. After you see that it is blooming true - cut off the bloomstalk and put it in a wine glass to enjoy - and let the starter beef up. When the starter blooms firs time - depends on 2 things - genetics - and light. Some varieties are early bloomers - and some are not. If you keep them on a windowsill - who knows when they will bloom - if under the lights - a little bit more than optimum light will make them bloom fast. If you put them under 2 T8s - blooms will come early, Sometimes they send the bloomstalk while still in a leaf pot = and you just need to snip it. Very exhausting for the little plantlet.

It will be located in the kitchen on a wall parallel to the main sink (an island in between). I at least want to use it for rinsing out coffee cups and dumping the drain pan for the coffee system. Probably for washing hands too.

I think I want to use a wall-mount karbon faucet with it.
