Since when does a neighbor have the right to tell you how tall
Comments (44)What...we're not supposed to be all drunk and whatnot on here? G'bye folks! +oM PS....I do get what Floral speaks of. I live in what is considered (and is) one of the northernmost states in the US. The 45th parallel-that's half-way between the equator and the N. pole-runs right through here. But if one looks at a map of Merry Old, they'll see it is much farther north. As such, sun angles in winter take on a meaning that may seem quite foreign here. For my part, I don't know a single soul who doesn't come down with at least a touch of Seasonal Affective Disorder around November in these parts. Day after day of gloom, each one of those days a little shorter than the prior. Makes it easy to have a feeling for what the UK resident may experience. I didn't look at the videos but I get the sense of what's happening here. A couple thoughts: In all cases of neighborhood strife, it seems best that the parties involved talk to one another first, long before it gets to this point. I wonder if opportunities weren't lost in that regard. The other point-Leylands grow sufficiently fast that you can't say the angry, shade-hating guy shouldn't have foreseen this and went with an different property, if in fact he moved in after the plants were installed. Finally, there is a fine line in all cases where your freedom to do as you wish conflicts with someone else's freedom to live as they wish. In any and all such cases, compromise of some type is far superior, IMO, to rigidly holding your ground. Life's too short. And as much as I am a tree-lover (Anyone who follows my thousands of trees planted knows this) there are legitimate cases, and this appears to be one, where the other factors may trump the desire to leave these be. The fact this is a hedge gone awry does seem to have a part to play in this matter. +oM...See MoreMy sons car was hit while parked - Need Advice
Comments (9)Very close to the exact same thing just happened to my Son in Nov 07....with the exception I made them write a report..Im with going to the police station and finding that officer, and/or his superior! In my case this man showed false ins info, had no valid liscense, was definetely 'on' something..he did get several tickets, but always get a police report, make them do it....even if the other driver doesn't get a ticket..at least there is a report... Come to find out this man had no insurance, so On my son's car I only had liability and uninsured...my ins. is going after the other ins. and the individual who hit his car...it totaled my sons car (ford focus) and only cracked this mans blinker (a huge duelly (sp?) truck. Oh and he left the scene, my neighbor jumped in his truck and followed him..and made him come back to the scene....he did not get a hit and run because the man returned to the scene within 15 minutes..sooo if this ever happens sit outside the mans house for 15 minutes and then make him come back to the scene...he WOULD NOT have come back had my neighbor not made him..he was already pulling into his garage! My ins. did pay! and this man actually moved out of the neighborhood about 2 wks after the accident, oh he also totaled our mailbox..shoved my sons car over the mailbox...my ins. paid for this also! Make the police write up a report....if its not too late..and take lots and lots of pictures! I actually took a picture of my sons car and his truck and liscense plate that very nite... Good Luck! Comments (21)time2sell, I had a situation like that with my last investment property that I sold. The guy however, was doing it it kill my sale. He didn't like my buyers ethnicity and his wife even made sure I knew. He started parking all his cars in his front lawn, playing his country music very loud and doing little things just to try to scare my buyers off. There was no HOA so there was not much I could do. Luckily my buyer never said anything and the deal closed quickly. There is some sweet irony to this story though, my buyer apparently did notice the cars on the lawn, but interpreted it that it was ok to park on the lawn in his new neighborhood and started parking one of his cars on the lawn. Last time I drove by the house, he is still parking his car on the lawn. I guess the neighbor that thought he was spoiling my sale, actually started a new trend for the neighborhood. Serves him and his wife right. Time2sell hang in there. Focus on selling the house and not the jerk neighbor. Its juvenile and probably will have little impact on your sale. I also understand your not wanting to say anything to your neighbor. If the guy is this much of a jerk, he'll just be thrilled to know it bothers you....See MoreNeighbor has broken car parked in easement. About to close on house.
Comments (24)Did you make it a contingency in the contract to have the car removed? If not, the sellers don't have to do anything. And you really have no 'legal' recourse - with regards to having the car moved - for backing out of the contract. Most people never look at property surveys after they buy their home and depending on how long the neighbors have been owners, they may have no clue that the car is actually on your property. Considering you're closing soon, I'm sure the last thing you need is people telling you 'walk away,' especially if its not an option without *you* getting sued for failure to follow through with the contract. Not to mention, I have no idea how much anxiety/stress or whatever else you've gone through with your home search, so offering a non-solution is surely making this situation more stressful for you. Depending on where you live you may be able to anonymously report the car as abandoned. Where I live this can be done online or by calling 311. All you have to do is give the address of the car and a description. I did this just last week for a car that is 'abandoned on private property.' The car is actually a safety hazard since rats and other animals can make homes in it. The city came out within 3 days and posted some sticker on the window. I'm not sure what the owner has to do to follow-up, but they won't do anything because the car doesn't even have windows. The city will tow it within 30 days if the citation isn't followed up on. Hopefully the solution for you can be this simple....See MoreElmer J Fudd
