Stainless Warming Shelf over Range--Any Regrets?
Comments (3)We have the 24" backguard with shelf. We are quite happy with it except for one thing. The shelf isn't adjustable. Our friends have this same set up and their shelf lines up with the bottom of their upper cabinets. One thing we didn't check was the height of the stainless shelf with the bottom of OUR cabinets (I guess we just assumed it would line up like our friends). But our shelf ended up being about 4 inches higher than the bottom of our cabinets so it isn't as nice visually. It's not really a problem, but we were just taken by surprise. As I recall, it is a bit on the pricey side so you might see if a metal fabricator can make something similar for less money. I believe some people on GW have done that....See MoreCan we talk about Stainless BS w/warming shelf over range?
Comments (14)beekeeperswife- Our Garland range (the precursor to Bluestar) is 36" wide, with a 36" wide shelf and ss backsplash (not tiled in, it's a sheet of ss). The hood is 42" and where the range hood meets the backsplash there is about 1.5" gap on either side. It does not bother us, but we're not that detail oriented, YMMV. The warming shelf is a great place to store the kitchen timer, mortar & pestle, salt shakers and pepper mill, and a great plate warmer. The rangehood is vintage Broan, so no heat lamps, but if you are cooking either in the oven or on the rangetop, the plates will warm up nicely there. WRT the underside getting gummed up, we're not clean freaks, and the cleanliness of the underside of anything never weighs on my mind, so I've never even looked. There is a lip, so the underside is about 2" up underneath (if that makes sense). When I clean the shelf itself I swipe the finished edge of the lip and call it good. Good luck- sandyponder...See MoreUppers too heavy? Open shelf end? Too cheesy?
Comments (30)Rococogirl--I do plan to figure out the hood height and oven top alignment to see if it makes sense to do something with that line. I'm not sure I understand what a utensil rail is. Lavender--Thanks for that photo. I never took a good look at the fabrics there before. Jilly--that space has bugged me for a long time. It's a 3/4" thick end cabinet panel so my options are somewhat limited. There will only be crown molding at the top. That's it. It needs something there. I'm planning to hang 2 pendants over the 50" long, 44" wide peninsula in front of the wall. That'll cover part of the blankness. I need the counterspace too much on the peninsula for buffet service to wrap the cabinets from the dining room around on that wall. Some shelves might work there, depending on the pendants I choose. I don't want the area to be too busy. Here's the view of the peninsula and DR cabs from the DR. The artwork on the DR wall is just simulated for rendering purposes. I don't have anything planned to go on that wall yet. The counterspace under that wall is about 13.5" deep so I can't put anything with too much depth on the wall or it'll hit people in the head. The counterspace on the left with the uppers above is about 26" deep and will be used as the beverage area during parties. Does that help answer your question? Have any ideas for that space?...See MoreWarming shelf question
Comments (4)I am using a warming shelf made by IKEA. It was very inexpensive and comes in a longer length (which might be better for you since the space is so wide. It is actually designed to be mounted on the wall, but I wanted the brackets to be hidden under the tile so I cut some of the sheetrock out of the way and added wood blocking so I could mount it seceruly. Then I grooved out the face of the sheetrock so the brackets would be flush with the surrounding sheetrock. I will be tiling the BS area in the next couple of weeks. By using this shelf instead of the shelf Broan makes, I am still able to have tile all the way behind the shelf. Here's a picture.... Here is a link that might be useful: IKEA shelf...See Moreskmom
