Poppies--can we talk about the?
Comments (54)Melissa, I was wondering the same thing about the Oriental poppies. Just wanted to post an update. I planted out all of the annual poppies two weeks ago, and they have made it through several nights of freezing temps, LOTS of strong winds, etc. and survived just fine. They are even starting to show some growth. I'm pretty certain now that the problem last year was that it was too warm by the time I planted them out. That high altitude sun can really fry young sprouts! I'll try to get some pictures of my baby poppies to post. Bonnie...See MoreStainless Warming Shelf over Range--Any Regrets?
Comments (3)We have the 24" backguard with shelf. We are quite happy with it except for one thing. The shelf isn't adjustable. Our friends have this same set up and their shelf lines up with the bottom of their upper cabinets. One thing we didn't check was the height of the stainless shelf with the bottom of OUR cabinets (I guess we just assumed it would line up like our friends). But our shelf ended up being about 4 inches higher than the bottom of our cabinets so it isn't as nice visually. It's not really a problem, but we were just taken by surprise. As I recall, it is a bit on the pricey side so you might see if a metal fabricator can make something similar for less money. I believe some people on GW have done that....See MoreWarming shelf with range top
Comments (5)Years ago I was fortunate enough to order a custom built Vent-a-Hood with "dual lungs" with drop down shelves and "infra-red lights" to keep food warm. I put this over a SIMPLE stainless Viking four burner gas range. Fabulous! To say the least, I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. My house sold in 5 days. I used the drop down shelves and lights constantly. I mean for every meal. Warm your dinner plates or keep the rest of the dinner warm while you finish off the last course. I never intended to use them that much...it just happened! I had a very small kitchen and the extra space of the drop-down shelving really helped like extra counter space with an extra bonus: keeping things warm if I needed to. I even used them without using the warming lights! I used the warming lights to soften butter, soften cheese,...etc. I was in love. I often used them as a place to park "prepped" ingredients. The whole look was stainless and it was the focal point of the kitchen. It does make a very bold statement but it is not "top heavy" nor is it "flashy". It is "reasonable" and makes a lot of sense for people who cook and your friends will wish they have what you have. :) It is a bit more work to keep clean. Stainless= more work,...let's face it. I would do it again in a heartbeat!...See MoreI love the long stainless shelf above my range
Comments (29)Scrappy, I'm not sure segbrown is around. In her reveal thread, she said the shelf was 13" deep. She also said her backsplash tiles are 6"H x 8"W. She's got 4 rows of tile below the shelf, so by counting tiles, it's hung at 24" above the counter - or 60" above the finished floor. I've linked her reveal thread for you.
