Didn't realize I'd have to pick PAINT right now!
Comments (8)I used a designer for the first time on this project, and she picked some really beautiful, neutral paint colors that I'd have NEVER picked off the sample cards - you should take a look at them, just see what you think: Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe: using in my entire living area, including kitchen, hallways, entry, etc. Sherwin Williams Balanced Beige: if the Tony Taupe feels like a little too much color, this beige is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I have it in rooms w/light from every direction, and it never turns an "off" color, no matter the time of day. Benjamin Moore Ashley Grey: If you need something w/a more grey cast than a yellowish beige cast, this is really lovely. For a "white" w/just enough color to really compliment brighter colors, I like Benjamin Moore Cotton Balls. I used it in a room w/candy cane red cabinets, in a Laundry Room w/Pear Green cabinets, and in my pantry ... where I have the palest of blue cabinets done in Wedgewood Grey. From the card, I'd never dream it is the perfect robins-egg blue! Hope that helps a little - I get overwhelmed when it comes to paint colors, but don't be pressured: painting can easily be done after cabinetry. You just need to get a skim coat w/some texture over the sheetrock, and you'll be good until cabinets are in place....See MoreI didn't realize I was a senior citizen!
Comments (17)We have a couple of stores here that have senior discounts on Tuedays and you only have to be 55 to get 10% off. 55 also counts for the senior menu at the iHop restaurant. I always show my ID, and tell them the polite thing to do is to look shocked and swear they never thought I could be old enough for the discount. That always gets a chuckle. I'm 58 now. Please don't worry about how old you look -- the cashier was probably told that it was rude to ask people their age, since most folks showing up for car washes on Tuesdays would be seniors....See MoreDepression so mild, you didn't realize it was 'depression'?
Comments (5)Definitely depression can occur during the menopausal years, and sometimes persist in the senior years as well. If you just feel mildly depressed, I'd continue with some of the things you're already doing (light therapy, getting out with friends, etc.) but if you begin to feel blue more often than not, I'd see your doctor. Some people feel very much better, on just the lowest dose of an anti-depressant. My sister has been on a very low dose for 15 years, but finds she returns to chronic mild depression when she goes off her low dose. Her doctor says she's fine her low dose forever, as it rids her melancholy and gives her no side effects. However, many women do go on anti-depressants during menopause, then go off them a few years into post menopause, and have no returning depression....See MoreI didn't realize farmhouses were such a big trend...
Comments (31)Thanks again to all that have taken the time to respond. I love the parts of the book that you posted Mark, thanks so much for taking the time. I am going to keep an eye out for those volumes when I am shopping the used books sales. I love the chapter header about dynamite. ILoveRed- Thank you, and I also like the shed dormer. The gable dormer appears more cheerful to me, if that doesn't sound too strange. I was driving around today paying extra attention to houses and their architectural elements, and I saw more shed dormers around here, especially in houses that just had a single dormer over a front porch. The gable dormers are more common in pairs or sets of three. This is something that could be changed without too much trouble, so I will be keeping it in mind. gthigpen- Your house is lovely! I like the color you chose for the exterior and the board and batten looks so nice. Thanks for taking the time to post those. Advice on the windows is noted. It certainly would save us quite a bit of money (I think it was almost 40% more for a "bronze" exterior). If we did do white windows, I don't think I would want a white exterior, as it would just be so much white. ETA- After seeing Mark’s pictures I pulled out a book we have titled “Down on the Farm,” copyright 1954. I was looking for any pictures particular to my area and could only find the one below. Thought I would share it, not for inspiration in my home design, but just because I love old photographs and figured some of you would also appreciate it....See Moreblfenton
