I've not had that happen. I wonder what the Redmond, WA connection is. At first, I thought that maybe you were on VPN or connect through a mobile device that had a WA area code, but since you don't use Chrome, that is unlikely.

Someone is either:

1. Trying to hack into your account

or

2. has the same name as you and can't seem to realize it's not their account.

I'd contact FB and report it for sure.

VPN, hmm, I wonder if my Adblock has something to do with it? I used to use another ad blocking program that connected to the internet via a proxy -- I'm not aware of Adblock doing this, though.

After much thought I signed up for face book. But even though I get messages in my email account I can't log in until I verify with a mobile phone. Since I don't have a mobile phone I can't do anything. I was hoping to use all the wonderful resources for genealogy that face book says it has.

Are you using a Microsoft product that could be interfering? They are based in Redmond?

Ajuju, nothing that I can think of that would cause this. But the fact that MS is based in Redmond does make me wonder if there is a connection.

I wonder if you clicked something (or simply clicked through a page) that mentioned a phone?

They ask me for a phone number or a friend contact in case I can not access my account. No phone number is needed yet.

Just say no!

I've gotten the message to add a phone number or contact -- and will not; it isn't necessary. They just want to vacuum up as much info about us as possible, and I give facebook as little information as possible - won't fill out the profile. I already suspect them of rummaging through my email address book -- how else could they have known about and suggested a "friend" that my only contact was via a few emails (not a contact of anyone that I was connected with on facebook).

I have to use it for work communication (my department has a private facebook page) and I like to use it for my neighborhood's page. But that is all. No personal posts.
