What are you serving New Years Day?
Comments (25)We had Christmas dinner with Jimmy and Maartje, and so I have energy for New Year's Day. We went shopping at Ralphs today and found fresh okra, and so I decided to make seafood gumbo, which is one of my top five favorite dishes. It will include fresh frozen shrimp, Alaskan King Crab, and Maine lobster. I made some stock from the leftover Cornish game hen bones from Christmas dinner, but I may or may not use this stock, as I like for the seafood to dominate. I plan to start cooking early because I want to use as much of the seafood shells for stock as possible. I only add the seafood meat at the very last minute before serving, and I plan on freezing a few servings for later. We got the refrigerator cleaned out on Sunday, which was the first we had to go through and sort everything for the past month or so. I'm very happy with the new space that I recovered and pledge to keep it. Lars...See MoreWhat Day Are You Having Your Easter Dinner?
Comments (7)Our Easter dinner will be on Sunday afternoon. We only have about half of the family. Our oldest son and his family are vacationing in FL. I have a very easy meal planned. The cooking will be done on the grill. We'll have ham slices and I think I can heat the twice-baked potatoes on the top shelf in the grill. I hope to bake some special bread tomorrow. For dessert we will have Strawberry shortcake and lemon bars. We will only have one little kid, but we will have a egg hunt, indoors. I think the weather is expected to be nice and warm. Yesterday was up in the 70's, which is amazing for MN, but it is already humid out there....See MoreWhat's for dinner New Year's Eve?
Comments (19)YogaLady, I probably won't make it either, but I have good intentions. I really like Pad Thai, but Harry not so much. If you have time, look at the recipes of the week. I posted a soup recipe I think you may like. Kathleen, how nice to have an evening alone. Bet you don't have many of those, so enjoy it. That salad sounds delicious. I've never tried it. Georgysmom, I hope your lobster turns out better than mine. They weren't Maine lobster tails and not very tasty. I salute your DH for helping out--I know you've been working your fanny off in the kitchen. Shirley, you sure are creative! I would've loved to share your dinner with you. Jasdip, you're having my idea of the perfect evening. I do like watching the New Year come in in foreign countries, though. Happy New Year, friend! Glenda, I haven't been to Applebee's for so long! We always loved eating there when we lived in Gainesville. They had an excellent Oriental chicken salad--but it's been years ago and don't know if they have it any longer. Nancylee, don't think I've met you before, but welcome to the KT. Chili is an excellent idea. I could eat it every cold night we have. I don't put beans in mine. Just a lot of meat and chili powder/cumin :-) Oh man, Azzalea, those ham salad sandwiches sound so yummy! Especially with the slaw. I hope it tasted as good as it sounds. Land, now I really, really want ham salad. Cheryl, if I had to get up at 4:30 there'd be no way I'd even see 9 p.m. Have fun with your neighbors and get a good night's sleep. Raven, was your Aroma cooker a Christmas gift? (Did I forget that? I do love Asti and meant to look for it when shopping today--but forgot to put it on the list--and you know how THAT goes :-( Pam, I'm sorry you missed your family Christmas and hope your mother is going to be okay. She (and you) will have some decisions to make this year, I'm sure. But as long as she can manage with help, it's a good thing....See MoreWhat's for dinner New Year's Eve?
Comments (15)Oh my gosh. We had shrimp and scallops and oysters and clams and muscles and calamari and homemade pasta she crab soup and rack of lamb and roast beef and chicken cordon blue and pate and brie and so many different salads and a platter of assorted cheeses and cheese cake and chocolate cake and bread pudding and bananas Foster and on and on and on. I ate so much I hurt. It was a lovely evening. I'm glad I went. We generally stay home but decided to join in on the fun this year. It was funny to watch though. We're all getting older and everyone was wondering if they could make it to midnight. I remember the years we went until 2:00 -3:00 and even 4:00 in the morning....See Morecooper8828
