12 Ways to Make New Year’s Eve at Home Feel Special

As with almost everything in 2020, New Year’s Eve will feel quite different from previous years. If you’re celebrating with yet another night in, check out these 12 ideas to make staying at home fun and festive or relaxing and restorative. Whether you’re toasting a brighter year ahead (or offering good riddance to 2020), have a look through this list and see if any of these ideas spark inspiration.
1. Plan a Special Meal
You can cook for yourself or use it as an opportunity to support a favorite local restaurant by ordering in and taking a break from the stove. Either way, use your nicer set of china and silverware, if you have them, and take the time to set a thoughtful table. Use a tablecloth and cloth napkins and decorate with candles, a vase of fresh flowers or sprigs of cut branches laid on the table. A bit of effort can help make a dinner at home with loved ones feel like a special occasion.

Living in Phoenix, AZ we have the advantage this time of year. We spent Christmas outside. Dining table went out on the patio, both leaves in (making the table 7 ft) and had dinner with our neighbors. Then, we gathered, distanced, around the patio heater and fire table with warm, fuzzy blankets, music, mulled wine and desserts. We will be doing the same for NYE. Fire table, music, appetizers, drinks and s’mores will be a great way to ring in the new year.
As a neighborhood we are going outside and ringing bells to bring in the New Year.
I found this in time for Valentines Day too. Birthdays and so on... who’d have thought we’d be rewriting all our special times?
