Wow your mother of pearl looks great !! Especially with the blue salvia . I'm ashamed I didn't get it , I didn't have a spot for it and now I wish I had bought one!

Im really happy with my fire opal rose . Seems to be enjoying the heat very well . Really clean too !

lol- I'm still waiting for the dog days to get here. it has been very cool most of the summer. Our hottest day was Easter and then only a couple of low 90's in early June. I'm not really missing those hot and steamy days though. My best performer right now is Easy Elegance 'My Girl'. I'm dealing with a rose midge infestation so not many blooms although DA 'Windermere' and 'Queen of Sweden' are blooming nicely as are 'Bolero' which laws seems to have at least one bloom or bud all the time and Kordes 'Fire Opal' which is fast becoming one of my favorites. Kordes 'Earth Angel' is flowering nicely even though she's looking pretty straggly and has some bs since it's been so wet here this summer.

My troopers are sweet drift, dames de chenonceau, pope john Paul, pat Austin, spirit of freedom, summer memories, evelyn, duchess de Brabant, and most of all, Wedding Bells

Jude, Mystic Beauty, Heritage, Wollerton Old Hall, Earth Angel, guy de Maupassant, Boscobel, Sombrueil are all blooming now. Many buds on Bolero and Clotilde Soupert.

I just got MoP last year. Darn I had just snapped off the older blooms and the new buds are not open yet. This is one of those roses that I love the bush maybe even a bit more than the flowers. Mine is planted with The Lady Gardener and they make a perfect combination.

For the first time in a long time midge has taken a leave of absence (temporary I'm sure). I'm almost afraid to say that they are all growing, budding and blooming. Tears of joy shall fall. I'll just show a few that I ran out and took so I could share in this post.

It's diffidently been a little warm and muggy. Even sitting under the big shade tree, sweat runs down your arms and legs and my shirt and shorts look like someone dumped water on me. If I don't stay on top of the watering, all the new growth wants to wilt. The weather man says we are going to have some nice weather late next week. We'll see. I took a few pictures last week that I finally up loaded yesterday.

Oh my the pink on Scepter'd Isle is delicious.

Farmer duck and Ken I wish that I had that level of talent for growing roses.

Patty, your Boscobel is amazing. I think yours is smaller than mine which I got in a 2 gal pot this year, but mine has only one bloom on it. Probably the midges.

Ken, your Mavrik reminds me a little of Pink Enchantment.

Sofl, you enabled me to go outside my color comfort zone and get Wedding Bells.

Papa Meilland, Pink Peace, Margaret Merill, Broadway, and Cherry Parfait have been blooming machines even through the heat. On my walkthrough today I did note buds on Sonia, Red Masterpiece, Rainbow Sorbet, Peace, Dolly Parton, and Happy Go Lucky--so I think we are starting to see the other side of the heat.

And my very first partially open bloom on Nahema from Cool Roses. These roses were humongous and own root! She smells incredible. She's a little ragged from her mid July trip from FL to MA but putting out lots of new, healthy growth.

Kristine - I love your roses. I can't figure out why I haven't gotten Beverly yet. My Olivia has been midge to death this year. Just started to grow again a while ago while midge is vacationing.

Lily - you make me excited for next year. I think that I had 3 blooms from Soul Sister. She was a new band this year. The flower was as beautiful as yours. I'm hoping she winters well.

Sharon - Love your roses can't wait to hear how Nahema does over winter for you. You have gotten many roses that I would love to have but was afraid to try.

Patty- fingers crossed she'll survive. I'm almost more concerned about the voles. She is in her seashell moat though. The worse roses for me seem to be Easy Elegance roses but My Girl is doing great. I'm on my second Yellow Submarine. I lost the first to voles!! I'm z5b so a touch warmer than you. Some of my roses do struggle though. Most of the Kordes have done well especially Earth Angel, Madame Anisette, Cream Veranda, Jolie Veranda, Innocencia, and Honeymoon. Solero also is hardy which is surprising seeing she's a yellow rose. Fire Opal gets some cane dieback but she's one of my best performers. We seem to have a shorter growing season than some of you in as cold or colder zones. I rarely see any roses before end of June or early July, unless we have an unusually warm spring. I usually get flowers just in time to feed the JB's.

Sharon, in the same exact location I have Olivia Austin, Savannah, and Beverly. Two out of the three are thriving and one is struggling and guess who that is ? Beverly lol. When she puts out a bloom it's very nice but she hasn't put out many and I know she will. She's new and she will Thrive but Savannah and Olivia wow just non-stop bloomers.

Kristine- thanks for the info. My Beverly is being overgrown right now by daisies!! I really should move her. I had Zaide next to her and moved her already.

I can't wait to see how Savannah does once she gets going. Is yours grafted or own root? Olivia is only available grafted but I still want her. My Girl is cherry pink and this is the first time she has put on such a show. No black spot or any other fungal diseases and she is loaded with buds in a spot that maybe gets 5 hours sun at most and probably closer to 4 1/2. She even has a nice though delicate scent which is usually unmentioned in posts about her. She has been a pleasant surprise.

Jude gets some midge damage but continues to bloom in heat. Ah the fragrance!

Wow! Isn't Jude a delicious color. Very pretty.

Sharon, my Savannah is grafted on multiflora.

My 2 Ingrid Bergmans are looking puny. Buds are less than stellar and the leaves are crispy

thanks Kristine. I might succumb to temptation and buy some grafted Kordes from Palatine this fall. I think because we have such a short growing season here they could use the jumpstart of a developed root system. I just worry about graft failure at some point since I'm pushing 60. Some of my roses Like Julia and Bolero seem hardier on their own roots. I don't know if that even botanically makes sense but it seems that way.

Kristine, my own-root Beverlys started out very slow and a year later don't compare to Savannah. But at least she's not eight feet again. I can't believe that I have to cut a few feet off the top of the Savannahs off yet again when there are buds!

I didn't realize that yours were grafted. Maybe they will behave better?

Sharon, I worry about grafts too for the same reason!

Totoro, Jude has the best scent here too like your lovely ones! Mine are a really dark pinky orange right now.

thanks lavender. I have read mixed opinions on grafted verses own root but graft failure is definitely an issue especially with my vole problem. If the voles eat through the canes on a grafted rose I'll lose the rose. If the roots survive a vole attack on own root at least I can hope for the rose to recover. Plus the own roots are much easier to plant since the root system is much smaller which is a plus in my very rocky soil which is beyond miserable to sometime impossible to dig.

I bought a bunch of grafted ones this spring because they were so inexpensive at Home Depot to test the fragrance. Most of them have already been given away because the color doesn't work but some have already turned into two different roses.

I figure I have no chance with them in a hard winter!

That crazy Savannah, she got a hair cut this morning, new buds and all. Olivia is also going nuts. Not sure which is my fav but this week I am leaning towards olivia. The pale pi.k and bud shape are so sweet.

Winchester Cathedral also got a haircut he's putting out some pretty long arms, lots of buds on the end but I wanted to shape him up a little bit so he got a haircut.

And my two Munstead Woods not doing much . New Growth but really slow and not much of a repeat.

How is the fragrance on Olivia?

Lily- every time I scroll by Soul Sister I am awed by her beauty. She is definitely on my to buy list for next spring. Is she own root or grafted?

Lavender, I am the worst person to ask about fragrance. I rarely smell anything.

But, today I cut Malibu and the smell, was one I could smell. It is delicious . You never hear anything about Malibu and it is gorgeous in a hot orange/flore cent kind of eay. Large long

lasting blooms with fragrance . The picture doesn't pick up the iridescence

My first bloom on Dark Desire

Not a great picture but I can tell it will be a winner . It is darker with a purple under tone.

Enchanted rose - she came from chamblees own root this spring!! I really really love her and she smells good too !! I can't wait to see what she grows up to become. I definitely recommend her!!

I wonder how Soul Sister would look with Lady of Shallot?
