Your Best Dog Days Roses
Comments (10)Astronomically speaking, the dog days of summer haven't yet arrived, but they might as well have . . . Most of my modern roses have already begun producing MUCH smaller blooms. Even some of the so-called 'heat lovers' (St Patrick, Marilyn Monroe, Memorial Day, Elizabeth Taylor, et al.) are pouting. At spring flush, my favorite new modern was 'Sedona'. The color on that one was spectacular then -- now it's kinduva a muddled mess. Obviously, 'Sedona' is either thermotropic or phototropic. This is the time of year when my beds of modern roses look MUCH better from a distance. Lots & lots of color (and many compliments from neighbors), but up close and personal . . . not much to brag about....See MoreNEW: aug 2013 fotess swap: the dog days of summer
Comments (150)Hey Everyone! Just got home about 3:30, am totally wiped out, wanted to post about my package before I fall asleep standing up! Jayeanne sent a really nice package, two packages actually, she forgot to put the dog treats in the first one! I got what I think is a leash holder, shaped like a dog bone, with 3 hooks on it; it says "good dog" but that can easily be changed to "good Kitties"! Pink also sent a cinnamon pumpkin candle, a backpack size hand sanitizer (I use these ALOT), and a very sweet note, with baby Pugs on the front. And then there were the seeds she sent. I AM SO EXCITED! There were Coleus, sweet peas, California poppies and acorn squash. AND THEN, there was Broom Corn, Fleabane and Bishops Flower, all three of which great for attracting Butterflies!! I have one lonely little patch of Fleabane show up in a different spot every year, Now I'll have it where I want it! All three of these are new to me and I can't wait to get them planted! Jayeanne, thank you very much for a great "Dog Days" package. Loved it! If I didn't think I would wake up at 3 am and be awake for the rest of the day, I would go to bed NOW! Tabs and MyrnD were really good for me, but now I know why Chris sounds so tired sometimes, when I call. Gonna miss them, tho! Jeanne, thanks for hosting a great swap! Take care of yourself, please! Comments (50)#1, I just tried to send you an email and it bounced. Maybe that's what happened with the other? I don't always receive the bounce notices, my spam filter eats them. I'll post the message below in hopes you will see it here. ***************************************************** Hi #1, This is Askew. I'm so sorry you didn't get my earlier message. I wondered why you didn't write back. I emailed as soon as I received your package to tell you how much everyone LOVED their homemade treats and everything else! About once a year I'll make biscuits for them, so this was a special treat. What I wondered is what the cuttings were that you sent? They rooted nicely. I guessed they were houseplants, but I don't know for sure. I didn't see any activity on the Dog Days thread for about a week so I thought it was over and quit checking it. I truly didn't mean to slight you. You gift was greatly appreciated by both my and my dogs. I'm sending this message to you via email and hope that you get it this time. Don't think poorly of me, OK? Comments (32)One of our dogs, Tatya, graces us with her presence when she so desires. She is very good and stays at the foot of the bed and doesn't move all night. She has her own bed next to ours, as do the other 3 dogs. Most nights she sleeps in her bed, but sometimes she wants to sleep with us. She's our smallest dog, a ~35# Husky. The other 3 can't get up into our super-tall bed, but the height is no problem for our jumping bean! It's a king sized bed, otherwise I don't think it would work. And she absolutely would instantly and permanently lose all bed privledges if she gave even a squeak of protest to the OFF command....See MoreUser
