Amen to what Wanda said. But, unfortunately, the reason he is in prison is because of robbery...so he is eligible for parole. It just makes me so angry that he is able to hide his money so the Goldman's can't get what they have a

right to.

Legally, he's eligible for a parole hearing. Whether it is granted remains to be seen.

I agree that it is just awful that his $25,000 a month pension is not touchable b the Goldmans.

He's in jail b/c of robbery, not murder. I want to stay focused on his physical ability. Is he not, at 70, capable of breaking a window? So using the age factor as a pro parole argument seems odd to me.

of course there are many weak and very ill 50 YOs in the world but I also see a lot of vibrant 70 YOs. Again, using age in his case seems strange.

Why would anybody care about his $? Better than him living off our taxes, no? And why not be equally aggravated w/the baseball player that signs a gazillion $$$ contract?

He could still be very strong and capable of hurting someone. My husband is 82, he put shingles on the garage this summer, installed a new toilet, kitchen sink and faucet, dances, mows, gardens, etc. He does take a nap most every day, but he is fit and healthy.

Bossy because the Goldman family won in their court case and were awarded a monetary settlement amount. Which his pension should be going towards paying but it's not he is pocketing it. Very unfair. He has paid them nothing or very little of the awarded amount of the court ordered him to pay. He was found guilty in their case against him.

Supposedly he had some serious health issues while in prison which is another reason why he may be allowed to leave. And his term was for a robbery/theft of his own personal property and he is now eligible.

It's not a matter of physical strength, but that as a person ages he is less likely to commit violent crime. In this paper, less than 1% recidivism rate.

70 isn't capable of physical strength? My DH is 71 and can work with the best of the young set. And there is a 70 year old woman who fought off a mentally ill home intruder who shot and killed her husband (a well-known lawyer) this past weekend in a small town near here. Apparently there was quite a length struggle before she killed him. The authorities have not revealed how, but said it was not a gunshot. She was injured but recovering. I say Brava to her!

Back to the topic, he is likely to get paroled because he apparently is being forgiven by the man he robbed and has been a 'model' prisoner. The law apparently does not allow for consideration of his previous behavior (and the trial for murder and subsequent information regarding his guilt) in consideration of parole. I heard Nancy Grace violently disagreeing with this yesterday. Yeah, I agree, he should have been put under the prison for those 2 murders. And btw, I hear he has lost a lot of weight and gotten back in shape. I guess we will see his new shape today sometime.

the OJ story made me think that today's perception of the number "70" "80" "90" doesn't seem to be in line with actual capability. Kinda like the kid that knows his mom is 35 and calls her "old". Perception hasn't really improved.

Raven, being awarded a judgement and actually getting no $$$ is an everyday occurrence. DH and I have gotten two favorable judgements and have gotten zilch, in fact, the only winner were lawyers.

On one occasion, maternal granny came to visit. I guess she was in her mid-late 50s, incredibly ancient in my young mind. She starts getting out of the car and I proceed to hold her arm to help her out. She yanks her arm away from me and says she wasn't an invalid. I was confused by her hostility. Roll forward decades and I can better understand why she misunderstood my gesture. My perception of the AGE NUMBER was not in line with her abilities. It appears little has changed since.

Oh good grief. Some of you sound like OJ was a serial burglar who rarely let a week go by without breaking into someone's house and stealing every item of value. As Raven said, he was convicted of stealing his own property that had been stolen from him. Just because someone has physical strength and abilities doesn't mean that person is going to commit crimes whenever possible. If it did, then the husbands of a few of the earlier responders to this thread would be sitting in jail.

As for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman... the Criminal Court jury found OJ not guilty. If you followed the case closely, and paid attention to the evidence -- especially the timeline -- you would see that it was impossible for OJ to have done it unless someone else was involved. The prosecution never even suggested anyone else was involved, and the police and investigators never looked for another suspect. OJ was the only suspect from the moment the bodies were found.

Don't get me wrong -- I am right there with the rest of you in thinking that the murders were horrible and senseless, and I grieve the loss of two young lives. But I am not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that OJ was the killer and that he acted alone.

And don't get me started on Fred Goldman... Ron Goldman had cut ties with his father years earlier and hadn't even spoken to him for several years.

But, the bottom line here is that the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman have nothing to do with OJ's prison sentence and/or whether or not he is released on parole.

I am watching it now. My eyebrows might jump off my face.

Lindsay, I was commenting on the TV observations that suggested b/c OJ was "70" he was less likely to commit crime. Had they said "he cries often and regrets stealing/killing/whatever" I would find more reason for board to say yes to parole. But age, an apparently strong 70, I don't see that as an argument pro or con parole, in this particular case.

I'm happy to report that I finally figured out that you were all talking about OJ Simpson and not the Old Joyful OJ that posts on this forum. Our OJ doesn't seem the prison type. Lol!

I fail to see why the pension would, could or should be untouchable. I can see that it could be administered by some agency out of his control with its own rules. And the money the pension agency will be paying him is not his until the pension agency actually pays the money, but at some point (presumably each month) the pension agency disburses money to him, at which point it is his money, and therefore should be instantly and automatically seized, and transferred to the Goldman's, before he can do anything else with it.

So he's getting out. We shall see how angelic or devilish this septuagenarian will be.

If Simpson had no culpability for the murders why did he hop in his SUV and head down the freeway, cops in pursuit?

I think there is a big difference between being a "model prisoner" and being a "model citizen". There is one thing that most people who kill, steal and rape have in common and that is that they are good at manipulating. I think he's playing the system and will be a menace once again once he's out. I even heard that he'll probably be granted permission to move back to Florida which seems like special treatment.
