You never heard the opposing team be booed by the hometown fans??? In any sport???

Not when introducing the teams at the beginning of the World Series.

I know it's their first time...but it's very bad manners, so to speak.

DH thought the booing was rather mild...especially considering it was the Phillies.

I think you've got Phillies fans confused with Eagles fans.
We have never booed the visiting AL team this way during the WS introductions...and i've attended all the home WS games for the last 30 years.

Sadly, booing seems to be pretty common. I hate it and think it's rude. Nothing has been gained by our continuing lack of good manners. I sound like my mother and my grandmother when I say that, but I think it's true! We are not a very polite society anymore.

I think booing is rude also. Let's face it, without an opposing team ther'd be no game! And we don't like it when our team gets booed somewhere else! Do unto others?

I agree that booing is rude. I read somewhere in the past few days that it is becoming more frequent now. I think if a call is made by the referee or umpire that you think is wrong it is more acceptable to boo, but not when players are being introduced.

Ahhh, you're not a Phillies fan or you, Monica? I would say you are very dedicated. I've never seen a pro baseball game in person. Bet it's more exciting than on tv!

Booing at an introduction is poor sportsmanship. They should be ashamed. It has nothing to do with our parents or the past, its purely the sign of the times. Disrespect running rampant in the USA. People think they look smart, when the truth is they make their team look bad for booing the opposing team.

I live an hour and a half from Tampa, and the sports fans up there are insane! You think that's bad, you should go to a hockey game! But remember, most of these people are not from Florida, they're actually from up north, a lot of them from around NY. The Yankees have their spring training in Tampa, so a lot of the Rays fans are also Yankees fans. Yankees fans are always rude. I can say that, because I'm a die-hard Yankees fans, and I love the good and the bad about their fans.

Oh my gosh, if you think the booing is rude, you should definitely stay away from Giants baseball games! It's nothing for Giants fans to throw things at, or spit on, fans for the opposing teams. You almost take your life in your hands when you go to a Giants home game.

I intensely dislike the Giants, and even more intensely dislike their fans. Their stadium is great -- too bad it's not the home stadium for any other team.

Lindsey, I grew up in California going to Roller Derby games. Now that was insane. Old time hockey before all the new age rules was really wild too, both on and off the ice.

It's funny this post came up today because just the other night my DH was watching some football and I happened to hear the crowd boo. Yep. I was being sarcastic when I commented that I was surprised it (booing) was still allowed. After all the way our society's heading I thought maybe they'd be giving out participation awards to both teams so everyone's self-esteem would stay intact. LOL

Monica, I agree the booing is shameful but I want you to know there are many Philly fans in the Tampa area. In fact, in yesterday's paper there was a picture of a man whose restaurant is close to the Philly's spring training camp and he had two baseball caps on. Big Philly's hangout.

Back in the olden days when I was a teen in Indiana, basketball was THE be-all, end-all weekend event. The whole town went to the Friday night games. No one EVER booed! If a teacher caught someone booing, they were kicked out. Times sure have changed. No more manners!

I started going to professional sporting events in the 70s... baseball, football and hockey.

People booed then, so it is not a sign of the times, or a lack of manners with this generation.

I agree it is a bit rude, and I tend not to do it.... most of the time!

But... when the Broad Street Bullies take the ice, or when the Ravens come onto the field... yes, there is booing.
That is part of what an intense sports rivalry is all about.

Trust me, the players can take it!

Yes, MaryAnn....I've been a big Phillies fan for years. Had season tickets for over 36 years, and sat in the first row behind the Phillies dugout.
thank heavens it's chilly out now, I've been wearing the team jacket that the Phillies president, Dave Montgomery, sent Frank when he was in chemo.

ha, ha... there is no doubt that the Pittsburgh Pirates stink... but please do not deny their existence!

Professional baseball has been played in the Pittsburgh area since 1876.

Plus we have the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League. They are in Washington PA.

Oh, as I said above, I have been to pro baseball games... here in Pittsburgh and in other cities.

I heard booing in Toronto and in Saint Louis, in New York and in San Fransisco.

Cubs fans (who traveled to Pittsburgh for the game) booed the Pirates in our home field. So of course, the Pirates fans HAD to boo the Cubs. Same thing happened when the Yankees were in town.... the Yankee fans were extremely vocal.

Baseball fans boo too.... it is not just in hockey and football.

If you read carefully, I was shocked at the booing during the team member introductions before the game started.
That was classless.

How am I so sure? I live here (there). By the way, I don't have a bit of a problem with an out of town team being booed on the road and I'm sure the players don't either. It's expected and it's not mean spirited by the majority of the fans. It's really an extension of cheering for your own team.

It would be the same if the Phils were playing the Red Sox, Dodgers, Yankees or Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

I know there is booing during the game but at THE INTRODUCTION of the players etc. there should be sportsmanship. That's what's missing at so many games these days. If a bad call is made, I'd expect a boo but the introductions should be mutually boo less. LOL. WhydidIwritethat?

I think baseball is the most boring sport on the planet.
I go to 2-4 games a year to support the local team (eight this year for some odd reason...), but I really don't like the game.

And when I am visiting various cities, I often get a game as part of the local tour/spouse event/package deal/etc.

hey tampa is lucky they finally filled the stadium....i'm sure the fans will recipocate in philly...

When I said "people in Tampa are clasless" I was referring to the people in the stands the night of the baseball game.I did not mean to imply that the people in Tampa as a whole are classless....just that some of them are. I am from Boston and that would never happen here I assure you.

Classless (the boo-ers, not all the fans). Tampa Bay, they're the nuts with the cowbells, right? I turned off a TB/Boston game because of those bells. I couldn't stand it, you couldn't even hear the commentators.
