Finished Decorating My Foyer! (pretty much)
Comments (31)Justgotabme- DH was born in Lubbock and that's where Granny and Pappy lived. They have such a rich story - tenant farmers during the depression and because of government intervention due to the Dust Bowl, they were able to purchase land outside of Lubbock and became cotton farmers. DH's mom said that when Granny died at 98 she had $2Mil in the bank and was living on about $6 a day. Busybee3- Clorox eats the bone so peroxide is preferred. I posted a pic of the skull wall to FB and I'm getting a ton of messages from friends wanting to give me skulls! So yes, I envision a growing collection!...See MoreLove my new foyer bench ! How do I decorate around it?
Comments (3)Can you take a straight on shot of the foyer so we can better see the area rug placement? From looking at the floor on the sides of the walls it looks like it's off center. That would bug me. I think I'd prefer a long runner. How wide is the entrance/hall? Maybe a small area rug at the door and then a runner. Very pretty house! I'd leave your console with mirror as is. It looks nice. I really like the bench but that's a long wall. I like the above suggestions. I also wondered about doing three related groupings. Something right over the bench and one on each side. Whatever you do with art I think large. I think the photos and diploma frames are too small. If you want to use them I'd get larger frames and mat them. Are they 8x10s? At least 11x14s and you can easily find mats and frames inexpensively for that size. ETA- Looking again, it looks like the bench is centered on that wall and the area rug intrudes into it's space. I think we need to see a different view of the foyer area but I think (hard to tell) if you keep the rug the bench would look better moved down more to the left. With art then above it it would be anchored and look intentional event though it's not centered on the wall. I had to do this with my foyer. The buffet I have is moved down because of the door so the mirror and buffet aren't centered but it doesn't look weird if that makes sense. Also, could you put the front feet of the console over the area rug so that it's centered? Again, hard to tell. These suggestions may not work but things to consider/try!...See Morelooking for ideas to decorate my lonely foyer.
Comments (43)Thank you everyone! Sorry it took me a while to get back to all these great suggestions. My house has a craftsman vibe downstairs. The entire kitchen is maple wood and there is wood flooring and maple wood build in cabinets. There is a fireplace there with bluestone. That’s why I wanted to pick up blue tones. I want to make changes in the kitchen and living room. @Sableincal, i like the table idea but I could see my little ones climbing and toppling it over. @grapefruit thank you! I do love the door and the idea of replacing the tile with wood. @Beth I am absolutely in love with that white chandelier you posted and the entire foyer in the picture you posted. The rug color is on point with my wall color and space. I like the wall panels also. I’m not so into plants but I could see how it would bring beauty to my space. @queenmargo, yes the trunk needs to go. It’s such a strange little cove. Best to not bring attention it it. @Design Interior South, the outside definitely does not flow with the inside. The exterior is a light grey with white windows as you see. Inside has this yellow creme tone paint with a lot of maple wood (kitchen, maple, living room maple built in, floors in living room wood, natural wood French doors in kitchen) maple wood furnishings in the mud room and master bedroom. No exposed beams and all trimming are while. I love that oversized blue chair you put in there and the gorgeous multi color blue rug. The wall art is very nice too as is the chest to the right of the picture. Love the darker chair also and the round table you suggested. Thank you! @ginatay123, a multi tier chandelier sounds nice. Thank you for the advice. My husband loves the craftsman vibe we have in the house but I keep wanting to change some of that to reflect the outside of the house. I like traditional with a touch of farmhouse and I do like some craftsman pieces but not all out craftsman but of course the house needs to tie in and flow together. Thank you for the advice on where to find and search for chandeliers. @lynartist I’ll look into the height for the next one. I like the two tier chandeliers you suggested also. The door is definitely the showpiece there as you said. It’s hard for me to pick more furniture for that area because I don’t want any more natural wood there or dark pieces so I’m thinking light and white but not sure if it will work with the craftsman door and all the other maple wood I have in my home. I will post some pictures of the rest of the house in a bit...See MoreHelp! I need ideas on how to finish decorating my living room
Comments (74)Curtains would be a good idea. Even though you have blinds for privacy, curtains make the windows look finished. A little eyeliner besides the mascara. I would not do a colored curtain here. Curtains are just to darn expensive to have to switch out when your color palette changes. I would suggest white or off white, whichever you prefer in a silk or silk-like fabric, and get a marvelous trim for the edge. The edge trim can be in a white and black or whatever color you want to take from your rug or elsewhere in the room. I would not do a curtain trim in gold here because I see 4 windows, for 8 panels, that would be a lot of gold. You want tasteful gold embellishment in a space, not Liberace in Las Vegas. Here are some examples of trimmed curtains. Buy the plain curtain, and then buy the trim of your choice, and buy extra trim to embellish throw pillows, and buy coordinating different scale trim for other throw pillows. Another curtain option is a white curtain with a subtle pattern woven or printed on it....See Moreeverdebz
