Guest Picks: 20 Decor Pieces to Pull a Room Together
Use these rugs, pillows, holders and other pieces to give your rooms a finished look
I get a lot of questions from friends and clients about how to finish off their rooms. I am a big believer in a little bit of texture, some pattern, a few layers and the little details. It's those things that tie everything together and help a space look finished. A good start with texture could be a jute rug. Layering can begin with pillows or baskets. Pattern can come from a lamp or mirror, or really anything! Little details like the trim on a pillow or the nailhead trim on a chair are almost always noticed and bring interest to a space. It's these things that help finish and pull together a room! — Brooke from Blueprint Bliss
Laguna Seagrass Baskets Set of 3
All of my clients know that baskets are my go-to for decorating. They are perfect for storage as well as adding interest, texture and layers to a room. I love these simple sea grass baskets. They work in any space, and you can't beat the price for a set of three.
COM-022 Pillow
I love the design detail on this embroidered pillow. I think a pair of them would look great on a set of chairs, a sofa or even a bed. I love the blue color and think it would add some interest to most any space.
Diamond-Pattern Stool, White
While I am not a fan of clutter, I am a fan of layers. Layers make a space feel finished. Side tables are often forgotten about, and I think that simple, small ones can be the perfect additions.
Tropics Jute Rug
This jute rug is one of my favorites. It's soft underfoot yet gives off so much visual texture. A lot of people get nervous about natural rugs being prickly, but I've never had a problem with jute rugs. I use them in 95 percent of my projects.
Pouf 15
I'm sure you've seen lots of poufs online or in recent design magazines. I just cannot get enough of them. They are great for extra seating or as ottomans. A pair of these would look great in front of a fireplace or flanking a table in a living room. Items like this are a great way to add layers to a space.
Large Rectangle Lacquer Trays
Trays are a go-to favorite of mine when it comes to decorating. They work great on coffee tables, bath vanities and wet bar counters. They can hold books, bottles, glasses or even a lamp. My friends will tell you that I go by the motto, "You can never have too many trays." They're the perfect way to layer up your counter or coffee table.
Quadrado Rug
As you may have noticed from following my boards/blog, I tend to lean towards neutrals. But I saw this rug in a recent CB2 catalog and fell in love. I think the pattern and color combo are a win-win and would be a great starting point for a playroom or sunroom.
Chevron Mirror
While I know that chevron is used a lot in home decor, I still haven't tired of it. I love the statement that this black and white mirror makes in a space. I'm thinking about using it in a client's powder bath. It's so fun, but the black and white keeps it traditional.
Linen Pillow, Lavender Flanged
Wisteria has a great selection of solid linen pillows, but it's this one with the flanged edge that gets my vote. It is the little details like trim or edging that add to a room's finished look.
Aztec Rug
An area rug is a great place to begin your foundation for a room because you can layer on top of it. I cannot wait to use this new rug from Surya on a project. I love the color and pattern.
Gilt Faux Bois Candleholder
It's the items you pass over at first glance in a store that often help finish up a space. I love these gold faux bois candleholders. They would add the perfect amount of bling to a room without being too obnoxious.
LD-028 Pillow
I love it when I come across pillows that are appliqued or embroidered. Pillows add interest to a room, but when they have a design that is embroidered, they bring in even more texture.
Je T'aime Paris Wall Art
I adore this set of nine framed maps that make up a large statement piece. They would look great on a foyer wall or even in a dining room. The gold frames add the perfect amount of detail.
Linear Blown Glass Table Lamp
This simple glass lamp with a linen lampshade manages to add so much to a space because of its texture. I would love to use a pair in my guest room.
Global Views Decor Corrugated Bamboo Nickel Box
I've been on the lookout for boxes and love the detail they add. I recently put one on my foyer table and stacked two on my bedside table. Not only do they look great, but they can provide a small amount of storage in an area that might not have a drawer.
Be Still
A gallery wall of simple prints is a great way to fill up a space and add interest. Sacred Made is new to the market and has quickly become a favorite. They have great designs that are subtle but beautiful. Consider grouping a few of these on a wall or in frames on a table.
Scribble Window Panel, Feather Gray
Like I said before, pattern is a great place to start when trying to pull a room together. It can add so much interest, especially when done right. I love these panels from West Elm and think they are so versatile.
Pine Cone Hill Candlewick Shale Throw Blanket
This throw blanket is the perfect way to add texture/layers to a space. Throw it on the back of a chair for an extra layer, and the design gives you plenty of texture. It's the perfect way to start finishing up your room and pulling it together.
Newport Cottages Corkboard
A corkboard is a must in my book when you have kids or even an office space. I love to add them to kitchen areas or playrooms and fill them up with children's artwork or Instagram photos for a fabulous yet simple way to spice up a room. This one from Layla Grayce is my favorite because it comes in a variety of colors.
Regina Andrew Decor Set of Assorted Silver Mini Seashells
Don't forget the details in your home. For those who travel to the beach often, shells are a favorite. Others might want to consider filling a clear glass cylinder on their coffee table with wine corks. Whatever it is, these are the things that will help pull the space together.
