Love my new foyer bench ! How do I decorate around it?

And where does the area rug go. Is it the wrong size. ? I took the other photo of opposite wall also,

So you can see the entire hallway which leads to family room. I would like to hang something over bench and anchor it somehow in this space. There is a mirror opposite which I could just move and place something else over the long console. Any suggestions are welcome.

I can pull the bench into family rm for gatherings so it will be great added seating

It's a long wall and I would suggest some sort of table next to the bench to ground it and a gallery wall of pictures above it, perhaps a lamp on the table also. I'm confused about the living room; is there some seating facing the TV? I think we need more pictures of the living area. You have very nice architectural elements. A larger rug, perhaps of Oriental type with warm colors and a border would be nice there. The rug you have has an unfinished look to it.

I like your console and decor so I would leave that as is. On your bench add a couple of pillows in a pattern that coordinates with your current color palette or add a pop of color with a solid vibrant fabric. Hang a grouping of photos on the wall behind the bench and add a garden bench on the side of the bench. If you can find a tall classic flower or plant that would add to your beautiful decor.

This was a perfect time for your bench post to resurface. After I read it originally, I went to Toscano's website and saw this chest and ordered it for my foyer or dining room if it doesn't look good in the foyer. The other pic is of the craigslist coffee table that picked up last week which will go in the living room right off the entry. It's got a black marble top, hardwood and was on the same sale that you orderd from. Most of their other chests were too ornate for me. Just got a postcard from them saying that because of high demand, it will take longer for them to ship than originally thought. I can either opt out of the order or wait a bit longer. Sooo, any thoughts yea or nay? I got it for $350+ $50 shipping(I think, I'm still out of town and don't have myrecords).

Jakefield-I feel the same way: I don't want to waste $$ on a piece I'm not even excited about. I have searched all the local furniture stores, but I need the piece in the next two weeks. I've actually settled on a couple of consoles at one of those stores that has everything in stock so we can pick it up. At $300-400 if I hate it in a few years I won't feel like I have to live with it because I spent a ton of $$ on it, and I'll use it elsewhere. Maybe I'm just sick of the look, but those media wall systems just look so cluttered to me right now. I am bummed that I lost all my closed storage though. I've spent the last two days getting rid of the stuff I had stored in the old unit. We have a wood stove on one side of this spot and a wall on the other. I guess I could push the console over a bit and put a plant on the non-woodstove side. Our old wall unit had doors that closed over the TV, but in our house it NEVER was closed unless I was home alone so I'm giving up on that idea. I'm just hoping someone can post some pics that give me some good ideas for what to put around the TV. Do pictures over the screen look odd?

I copied the photo of your rug to my photo program and sampled the colors in it. I then compared those colors with paint colors from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. The light gold of the background most closely matches SW 6374 Torchlight. The light brown was similar to BM's 2166-20 Caramel Latte. The green matched SW 7729 Edamame, and SW 2806 Rookwood Brown is similar to a taupe in the rug. Neither the coral or the dark red have any matches, and they would overwhelm a room in any event. What looked blue in the rug sampled as gray. These colors in your rug are muted by the small areas they occupy. They are more saturated when viewed by themselves. Below are approximate samples of the above colors. You should first of all check out these colors on the manufacturer's website in their virtual paint. Here is Benjamin Moore and here is Sherwin-Williams. Remember that you can choose a lighter version of these colors. For instance, SW 7726 Lemon Verbena is a lighter version of Edamame, and SW 6373 Harvester is a lighter version of Torchlight. Once you have narrowed the choices you should buy samples and paint on poster board. You can then set the poster boards against the walls you want to paint to see how the colors work. This is the only way to see if you like the colors enough to live with them. Otherwise you would be better off choosing neutrals.

Thank you everyone for your ideas! I think I will do a combination of things... some large planters, and blending the sides into the path on the front and the floating deck on one corner/side. I am also going to remove the stone surround at the base of the tree, and use it elsewhere. Since I have no kids under 17, the little kid part isn't needed. I will also stain it (thank you for the photo and idea @Beverly) the color of the floating deck. I think that difference is huge! I had not realized that it would be so different! Also thank you @decoenthusiaste for reminding me about the puppy factor. I think I will be doing some gravel underneath (which they leave alone) to prevent any future digging. I appreciate the input, hope everyone has a great summer!

Can you take a straight on shot of the foyer so we can better see the area rug placement? From looking at the floor on the sides of the walls it looks like it's off center. That would bug me. I think I'd prefer a long runner. How wide is the entrance/hall? Maybe a small area rug at the door and then a runner. Very pretty house! I'd leave your console with mirror as is. It looks nice. I really like the bench but that's a long wall. I like the above suggestions. I also wondered about doing three related groupings. Something right over the bench and one on each side. Whatever you do with art I think large. I think the photos and diploma frames are too small. If you want to use them I'd get larger frames and mat them. Are they 8x10s? At least 11x14s and you can easily find mats and frames inexpensively for that size.

ETA- Looking again, it looks like the bench is centered on that wall and the area rug intrudes into it's space. I think we need to see a different view of the foyer area but I think (hard to tell) if you keep the rug the bench would look better moved down more to the left. With art then above it it would be anchored and look intentional event though it's not centered on the wall. I had to do this with my foyer. The buffet I have is moved down because of the door so the mirror and buffet aren't centered but it doesn't look weird if that makes sense. Also, could you put the front feet of the console over the area rug so that it's centered? Again, hard to tell. These suggestions may not work but things to consider/try!
