[Play 'Jaws' music] March 29th = PASSOVER!!!!
Comments (45)jessyf, I have always just put the mousse into a big trifle bowl. It fits exactly. We put most of the food on a buffet, so I set it out there with some little bowls. I've never tried the cupcake papers, so I couldn't say. If you have the freezer space and tons of little bowls or ramekins, you could freeze individual servings that way. For a flourless chocolate torte, try that one I posted above. It's absolutely fantastic -- we aren't even big sweet eaters or chocoholics, and we were fighting over the last piece -- and VERY easy; you don't even have to separate the eggs. Here is another really great one I used to make: Passover Chocolate Parcel Torte 8 oz. butter/margarine 8 oz. semisweet chocolate chips 8 oz. sugar 8 eggs, separated whipped cream/nuts (optional) Melt butter/margarine with chips; remove from heat. Add sugar; add yolks, one at a time; beat after each. Beat 10 minutes until very thick. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour 3/4 of the batter into greased and "floured" (with potato starch) pie or spring-form pan. Leave remaining batter in bowl; do not refrigerate. Bake at 325 F 35 minutes; cool. It will fall to form a shell. After cooled, pour in the rest of the batter and refrigerate. Top with whipped cream and/or nuts if desired, but it doesn't need it. You can also make it bigger by using crushed macaroons mixed with melted margarine for the crust....See Moreneed help with kitchen plans, want to expand into dining room
Comments (8)gooster: thank you so much for taking an interest in my kitchen. i saw my GC today and asked about this. the problem is i live in earthquake country and the wall is not only load bearing, it's what's known as a shear wall. as i understand it, shear walls stop the house from doing the hoola hoop dance, which usually leads to an "all fall down" during an earthquake. My GC explained in detail what sort of reinforcement would have to be done to make up for the loss of the shear wall. there would be so much vertical support needed, going down thru the garage and deep into the ground, that i'd loose the use of my garage (under the kitchen) and have so many columns it'd look like ancient Rome. that being said, i love the idea of switching it around. i've also wanted to explore the status of that wall separating the ex-dining room from the laundry area. ooh, maybe i can move the laundry area to the original kitchen... thanks for thinking outside the box. it's just what i need. & we have sunshine for the 1st time in a week. Everyone has been so helpful. everything is great today. have a great day....See MoreIdeas on sympathy gift?
Comments (50)anglo, weddings are traditional gift-giving occasions and registries - especially the web-accessible ones - are easy and useful. For other traditional gift-giving occasions, I always inquire what the recipient would like, either of a spouse or of the recipient directly. If there's no specific answer, I give a gift card (like for a clothing store they say they like) or cash. In my experience deaths and funerals aren't traditional gift-giving occasions so maybe that explains my point of view on this? Flowers express sympathy and a wish for better days. Imagine you have a friend in the hospital and before visiting, you call them. Your friend says "Please don't bring me flowers, instead, please send $100 to the college I went to". How does that strike you? If your impression of that is similar to what mine would be, maybe that would help you understand my reaction to that sentiment in a death announcement....See MoreI went to a Bereavement session today......
Comments (47)Jasdip, I think we all wish there was something we could do to take away some of the deep grief and sadness you are feeling. Even if it turns out that the group is not a good fit for you, I think you are wise to give it a try. There is some comfort to be found in knowing you are not alone, that others are going through the same thing and that they understand your situation and how difficult it is. I am glad for you that Tom left such beautiful words for you to find and treasure. Hold onto that and know that you were and are loved and cherished by your man even though he is no longer physically here to tell you himself. You may find signs of his presence in other ways if you allow yourself to be open to them. In my case, it's pennies. When my mom died, I started finding a single penny in the strangest places. I still find them to this day, only now they are always in groups of three symbolizing my mother, father and brother. I still remember when my sister was sorting through our mother's old papers and photos when she got sucked into reminiscing over the photos and found a slip of paper from a fortune cookie stuck to the back of one of the pictures. She opened it up and it said, "get back to work"! We always took that as a sign from our Mom that she was still around and still being a mom. As always, you know that you can always come here and that there will always be an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on....See More- 9 years ago
