Because your siding color is very subtle, using white trim is not going to give that crisp contrast that usually makes that look so appealing. Is your house facade generally in full sun like the picture? That makes a big difference, too as those subtle colors get washed out. I'd keep it a study in neutrals and go darker with the trim, pull in the gray from the roof and the siding beige and pick a greige color for all the trim, use a darker version of the same thing for the shutters and possibly the doors Or use a burst of color for the doors if you like color, but I'd keep it a deep color, nothing too bright or pastel. Hard to specify colors but I'd start with a few from the B/M Historical collection - look at Copely Grey, Sandy Hook Gray, Sag Harbor Gray, Fairview Taupe, even Providence Olive and Hampshire Gray. In bright sun like that you'll just have to experiment and see what undertones become the most prominent. The green undertones could totally disappear and you could be left with a really nice, rich neutral which gives a lot of depth. Something like Dinner Party Red could be beautiful.

Hello, We moved into our home last September. As you might guess from the description above the exterior of our house is beige. We are ready to start painting the exterior. But I'm stuck on what color to paint the trim and front door. We have vinyl siding so we won't be painting that. I need a color for the porch posts (and anything else on the porch), front door surround, garage doors. I need a separate color suggestion for the front door. I usually use Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint. But I am open to PPG or Behr color suggestions as well. What are your suggestions? Thank you, Amy

I agree with the suggestions to paint the areas around the windows a taupe (tan/gray) to tone them down. The white is so stark that it immediately draws your eye to the second floor. I'm going to respectfully disagree with Tina, I don't think a metal roof is appropriate for your home. In my community a number of people have put metal roofs on ranch style homes. If you're a farmhouse, coastal, etc. then the metal roofs look good, but they're not for every style home. If you're going to keep storm doors then I would do a full glass style and paint your front doors for a pop of color. I wouldn't spend money to stain the front steps. I would either repaint them in black or a navy and the front door as well. You can also hire a landscaper to liven up the front of the house. I would add larger bushes and color.
