Serious but necessary: graphic texting while driving PSA
Comments (12)We found out a couple of days ago a childhood friend of my daughter was in a terrible accident a little over a week ago. They think she got distracted from the road when she was trying to look through her purse for her phone. She was going at least the speed limit or faster and hit a tree. The impact was so hard that the car engine came up through the dashboard and pinned her in. The bottom half of her body was crushed. They've been trying to save her legs, but it's not looking so good. She's a mother with 2 kids, and only 32 years old. To add to the problem them have no health insurance. Thank goodness she didn't hit another car, but her life and the lives of her family have changed forever. I agree that phones and texting in a car should be illegal....See MoreHow You'll Know It's Time to Stop Driving

Comments (20)There are lots of husbands that drive their wives all over to where they need to go, I have seen many sitting waiting for their wives to come out of the stores. Many wives did not learn how to drive and husbands did all the driving. What if it was the other way around, it was you, wouldn't you be thankful that your husband is okay to drive and we have one driver in the household and take you to places you need to go. And yes, as there is aging and health issues, you have tons of appointments, prescriptions, tests, etc. also on top of the normal errands and places always gone too. My dad had an accident in the driveway and his car was out of commision for three months. I told him to take my car for the morning and it was hard as he drove to the club to play golfing and I sat home stuck and I always went out in am to do errands. He was so thankful as my mother wouldn't help in any way at all and so at least he had my car to use. Yes, its hard but once you arrange times and areas you will be in to do those things, planning ahead helps alot in not having to live in car all the time. If you like to read, then bring something to read while you are waiting for your husband to do things if he goes in stores, etc. by himself. Just be thankful he is there and hope that one day if you can't drive and need help to get to places, someone will do that for you like you are doing for your husband....See MoreRoad Trip .. Comments (45)Sorry Funky, I just saw your question. We stayed in Southport, NC which is very near Wilmington. It's a cute little town. We really didn't do much in Wilmington, other than visit the beach area and a restaurant or two. We drove through the neighborhoods looking at the beautiful old homes. I have been to Wilmington many times in my childhood, as my god-parents used to live in that area. We have visited the battleship, although I doubt that is something you and your sis want to do! LOL!! There is a nice historic area and a riverwalk. I know you said your sister wouldn't be interested in museums, but there are some nice old mansion/plantations now set up as museums that you can tour. Not the typical museum. For the Asheville area, I believe you said something about antiques, visit the Antique Tobacco Barn. It's a bit overwhelming as it is LARGE, but lots to see in there. Someone mentioned the Sleepy Poet antique store in Charlotte, I believe we went there year before last when we stopped overnight near Gastonia, NC. As for BnBs, we like to stay in one if we are staying in one spot. We are very much "road-trippers" and love driving from point A to point XYZ and stopping at spots in between. Those trips do not work well for BnBs once you figure in the fees. There are some very nice hotels in Asheville, and in many of the larger cities in NC. When you do visit Charleston, there are both nice hotels (some very nice ones!) and some great BnBs. We like to stay on one of the surrounding islands and usually rent a place on the beach....See Morelucillle
