Dining Room to Play room - non-kidsy temporary toy storage
Comments (54)We did go with Ikea, the expedit. I LOVE them! I keep bugging DH to go back and get a couple more for our basement. I think they are great storage. I did think about using some of my DR furniture for storage and keeping it, but I just didn't think it would work for me. There are doors they make for the Expedits and some people paint them. There are amazing pics all over pinterest. I saved some to my playroom board and have it linked below, but there are so many good ideas. Here is a link that might be useful: Playroom pics...See MoreConverting formal rooms into playroom
Comments (5)That will be a very large play space. Have you thought about what kinds of functions you'd like in the room? Will you want a table area for board games and crafting? TV/video area? Open floor space area? What are the game/toy storage needs? Any book storage? How much sitting area...adult size? child size? Will you want a reading corner with a nice reading light and comfy chair? Thinking about these functions will help you figure out how to divide up the space. As it seems to be open to the front door, are there any foyer type storage needs such as a place to put shoes, boots, jackets, back packs, etc. Also, the dark curtains would make the room dark vs. venetian style blinds which would provide the light control and privacy yet allow air to circulate. Comments (4)I’m guessing that reference to dads workout/bike area means he’s either a triathlete or cyclist. We’ve got lots of gear! May I suggest some storage for his area? I like those cube storage shelves (ikea, Target, Walmart) all sell them. They are great for storing hand weights, foam rollers, canvas drawers for things like gloves, arm warmers, etc. then make sure you’ve got an outlet nearby. The top of the shelf can be a nice surface for dad’s tablet or phone so he can either watch movies, listen to music on headphones, or just follow along with is training plan while riding. I also like a yoga mat for post ride stretching, etc. (I also place my bike & trainer on top of an old yoga mat. Helps protect the floors and keeps the ride steady.) Not sure if that helps at all, but that’s where my experience is, versus playroom ideas :) Happy planning!...See Moreliving room/playroom layout
Comments (8)Cute pooch. Is the eighteen feet from the by window to the tv? If so, you could leave six feet between the back of the sofa (centered with the bay window) and the bay window for your play area. Then use the rest of the area for your living room space. If you want to try centering the back of the sofa across from the bay window, then measure the space between the side of the sofa and the wall with the two smaller windows. It may be that you have room there to place your desk/table with metal legs in that spot with its chair sitting in the play area. A tall thin metal lamp with large white shade on it could serve the living room as well as the desk. If not, find another side table/cabinet for that space for that purpose. You could plan a place in the play room for a bed for the family pet. Underneath the bay window, you might want a window seat that doubles as toy storage, preferably with front doors if the children are small. A top lid can pinch little fingers. https://angelarosehome.com/ikea-besta-bench-hack-with-diy-cushion/ Unless you're wanting a wall to wall built in underneath the bay window -- if you're wanting separate pieces of furniture, then on each side of the window seat, you might consider tall shallow cabinets with solid doors at the bottom for some hidden storage) and either open shelves or glass doors above for displaying family photographs and family treasures....See Morebeachgirl315
