I don't understand the last post to this thread? Thermasol offers a 5-year replacement warranty on all their controllers. Why would you pay to replace it? Maybe you had it more than 5 years? If so, then it's too bad it failed but how long do you expect it to last? I doubt you could expect a car to last reliably with no problems longer than 5 years, so why expect that of your steam shower. I have a PRO-395 that I installed 14 months ago. It just failed tonight. Not sure if it is the controller board or the heating element, but it stopped producing steam. Called tech support and they are shipping me a new replacement unit tomorrow and paying for the install, all at no cost. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk to them about the fact that it failed so soon. They are supposedly the best and charge a premium for their product. I am curious how they will explain that it failed so soon. Will update this post if they say anything interesting. Update: Spoke to them this morning and they are sending me a new unit, and pay for installation charge. One other thing. Someone in the tread above talked about making their shower with a 10 ft ceiling. Don't do that! That is just dumb, and will affect the experience of a good steam. If you ever want to make your steam shower bigger, do it in the length or width but never in the height. My house has 10 ft. ceilings, but my shower has a 7.5 ft up to an 8 ft. ceiling and that is plenty high enough. The 7.5 ft part is over the bench so the fact that it is lower there makes no difference because you are sitting down.

We will have a small master bath with a shower only. I was planning glass blocks up about 5 feet and then stepping down to the open threshold. A closed off doorway would become a seating alcove. The measurements will be something like 36 x 60. We're planning a rainhead which will mostly be a softer fuller shower, and then a handheld with a longer hose, but mounted on a shower bar. If this handheld, which is more forceful, is closer to the glass block wall, it should direct water more into the corner away from the threshold. Or so I'm thinking. Is my reasoning backwards on that assumption? Asking advice here: would a frameless glass wall be better to use than the glass block? It would take up less space but it would not give any privacy. And as far as an open shower experience making you feel too cool, there is the option of a heat lamp on a timer which would counteract that. I prefer the heat lamps to bathroom heaters built into the wall. But then I've not lived in really cold climates. We will be selling this house next spring, or I'd consider adding infloor heating under the new tilework.

Thank you Dawna and Sjhockeyfan for your kind words. Apparently steam is produced when the warm air from the shower comes in contact with the colder air in the bathroom. I think this means that less steam would be produced if the shower were enclosed. We wouldn't enjoy the extra work of replacing the curb and re-waterproofing but it would be much easier than re-doing it after the tile is installed. I forgot to mention that there is a pocket door between the shower and toilet area and the rest of the bathroom. We could shut this door while showering but it wouldn't keep the shower as warm as it would be if the shower itself was enclosed. Sjhockeyfan, how did you like the way your angled shower door looked?

Starphire is a brand name for Low Iron (PPG now Vitro). The fact that a dealer is going to charge you one price for low iron and another for the same thing but the Starphire brand would make me quite skeptical. As far as whether Low Iron is a benefit, that is a personal opinion, but the tile will definitely pick up the green hue in regular glass over low iron.
