Can anyone help me get a webpage hosted?
Comments (4)Thanx for trying to help me, guys, but honestly I have no idea what you're trying to tell me. As I mentioned, someone did this for me, so I know nothing about it, have no passwords, know no HTML for getting it done, and don't have access to anything concerning that page. I wasn't necessarily trying to add to that page. I was showing that page as an example of what I need to do with a couple other GardenWeb forum pages, just as that page once was. I tried doing this once before with the understanding I don't have to know HTML and the site instructions will walk me through the setup, but I couldn't get it to work out. And the main thing was I couldn't figure out how to load a GardenWeb forum page to it like she did with that page. I guess the person who did it knows HTML, so woe am I. I expected it would be something fairly simple but it looks like it isn't. I'll just keep trying to contact her. Thanx again....See MoreAnyone hosting the Feast of Seven Fishes???
Comments (9)This is one of my all time favourite recipes but I rarely make it because Clive doesn't "do" scallops. I've made it with shrimp and with lobster but I like it best with scallops. Coquilles St Jacques (Originally From The Woman's Day Encyclopedia of Cooking ) 1 1/4 Lb scallops butter (or margarine) 6 shallots (or green onions), chopped Bouquet Garni (dried parsley, celery leaves, thyme, bay leaf) 1 1/2 c dry white wine salt 12 mushrooms, finely chopped 1/3 c water or chicken broth juice of 1 lemon Fresh groud pepper 3 T Flour 4 egg yolks 1 c cream grated parmesan fine dry bread crumbs Wash scallops and dry with paper towel. Place in a saute pan with 2TBSP butter, the shallots and the Bouguet Garrni. Barely cover with white wine. Season with a little salt and bring to a boil. Turn down and simmer about 4 minutes or until the scallops are barely tender. Drain and save broth for sauce. When the scallops are cool enough tohandle cut in small pieces or in slices. Saute mushrooms in 2 TBSP butter for 2 or 3 minutes. Add broth or water, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Simmer until mushrooms are tender. Drain and reserve liquid. Combine the reserved liquids from the scallops and the mushrooms and heat. Melt 3 TBSP of butter in a sauce pan, blend in the flour, add the liquid, heat and stir until thickened and smooth. Cook for 2 or 3 minutes. Add the scallops, heat through. Beat the egg yolks and mix with the cream. Add this to the sauce and cook gently, do not boil. Add mushrooms and season to taste. Spoon into individual ramekins or shells, sprinkle with cheese and bread crumbs. Glaze under the broiler for just minute or two. NOTE: Can be made several hours in advance and then spooned into the dishes and placed under the broiler just before serving but let it come to room temp first....See MoreMy AirBnB foray (because Gooster asked)
Comments (45)Jorge, I was mistaken. the Traveler commission rates on AirBnb are 6 - 12%, depending on the rent. The higher the rent, the lower the commission. I don't know what the break off points are, though. The owner pays 3%. So AirBnb is getting 9 - 15%, which is very hefty. Consider the taxes the owner is paying, the rent the traveler is paying, esp. on a vacation rental/resort area where rents are high, mortgages, repairs and maintenance..it's absurd. There's a lot of upheaval right now in that industry because these sites are really gouging homeowners and travelers. In addition, these rental sites are getting income from THOUSANDS, even hundreds of thousands of properties, while travelers are making ONE trip and homeowners are renting ONE property. from which they make their livelihoods. It is pure greed on the part of the rental sites. I do think that commission and PPB model will collapse at some point. In addtion, as an owner, one thing about the commission/PPB sites is that, when you get an inquiry, they practically have to book the property before you can have any meaningful vetting conversation (for both sides). These sites have software that prevents - quite strenuously - any ability to give the inquirer a phone # to call (and vice versa), an email address, etc., and the reason is they don't want you referring the traveler to another site where you also advertise your property but where the traveler wouldn't have to pay the commission, which homeowners actually want to do for their guests. My feeling is, if you have to disallow free communication, cause people to try to write in code (and even then, it fails) in order to keep customers from finding your competition, there is something wrong with your model....See MoreIs anyone hosting bats?
Comments (7)We've had bat houses with no negative consequences, but we don't monitor them closely to see if they are even being used. I'd like to know anything else one can do to make one's yard more bat friendly. On the topic of mosquitoes, we live in North Florida. Our hummingbirds have cut back on our spider population (their favorite food?), so not as many mosquito catching webs this year! Mosquitoes have been the dominant organism in many parts of the US even when there were also plenty of bats, hummingbirds, dragon flies, reptiles, etc. I just installed a rain garden to attract the mosquito predators (ludicrously by also attracting more mosquitoes), and the first predator clue I find is an OWL'S fresh wing feather!! Hummingbirds probably taste like candy to the owls. Before the rain garden came a 175 gallon water trough fish tank on the patio. The fish eat all the larvae, but the marginal plants like rushes that filter the water for the fish tend to harbor adult mosquitoes. However, the tank brought a great increase of predators...dragonflies and reptiles especially, along with hummingbirds...so at least the number of mosquitoes has not increased since the change.... A neighbor told me her citronella plants seem to work, but those things are annuals. Maybe I should try propagating them, but I will need to get plants of genetic material to propagate that has not been turned off yet. I think I will go look now for sources of PROPAGATE-ABLE citronella....See Moreaimeekm
