Opinions on gas fireplaces
Comments (6)Patrick_D -- When I was pricing insert units (not fireplaces) a couple of years ago, the local dealer gave me a pricing sheet for the Fireplace Xtrordinair unit & accessories. My dealer carried a number of different brands, so he even called his distributor while I was still in the store to verify when the FPX prices were increasing so I would have the most current info. If the dealer you visited can't do that for you, try someone else. The FPX website should have a list of authorized dealers. FPX sister company Avalon also offers gas fireplaces. For alternatives in fireplace units, it depends on the look you want. Harmon has a good reputation here, as does Mendota, I believe, but I've not seen these brands. My local dealer has added Town & Country units & they look great, but I don't know much about them. All of these manufacturers have dealer locators on their websites. Good luck!...See MoreGas fireplace hearth too hot?
Comments (1)As long as you are maintaining clearances by the manual, every thing should be fine. Wood combusts at a much higher temp then you hand can take. Its a radiator. Its going to be hot. If it gets to hot, it will shut down. So you can sleep ok at night. As far as pets, they have more instint then people give them, as far as kids, horseplay is how they get burnt. Put up a Kidco Child gate if your worried....See MoreColor opinion needed quickly! For beach house fireplace
Comments (10)Ah, funny you should say that. I was just sitting here looking at grays! Abalone (2108-60) looks interesting w/ the pink. I'm kinda liking the gray idea because I don't want the room to start looking like an Easter egg. Also looking at Vintage (1174) as a darker pink. This is going to make me crazy. I picked colors for 8 other rooms more easily than this....See MoreFireplace Hearth
Comments (13)i would consider this similar to asking someone not to smoke in my house, asking someone to use a coaster with a glass or hot mug, asking someone that might have muddy feet to wipe their feet, etc...i cannot imagine how asking someone not to sit somewhere since it is damaging the furniture/hearth is being ingracious... our raised hearth is stone, as are many, and i know i wouldn't think twice about sitting on a hearth without even thinking i might damage it...i would WANT to know that sitting on the hearth would cause it damage!!! i know i would feel awful if i damaged someone's hearth unknowingly and would offer to pay for repair...i think the GRACIOUS thing to do would be to offer other seating to prevent damage! then, again, i'm the mom of 3 teenaged boys and am always correcting/teaching it seems! doesn't faze me one bit i guess! maybe i've lost touch with proper etiquette! oh well!...See Moremonicakm_gw
