Where in Virgina should we move to? Please help.
Comments (70)Hi, I grew up the NY Metropolitan area and worked at JFK and LGA airports most of my life. For the last 14 years I lived in CT on a small âHobbyâ farm of 7 acres. Iâve gone from owning 7 acres with 6 outbuildings of various sizes and functions to an apartment that is 900 sq. ft. in size. Iâm now living on Long Island until my lease expires at the end of this coming April. Iâve experienced both ways of living. Iâm a 68 years old and live alone. My son and three grandchildren live on Long Island while my daughter and three grandchildren live in Arlington, VA. I plan on moving to VA to live âNearâ her and her family. I know near is a relative term. Iâve looked at the map time and time again and Iâm at a loss. Iâve thought it might be sensible to live near either of the two commuter train lines so I could visit with her or spend some time in Wash, DC at the various museums without the hassle of notorious heavy traffic. I have no idea of the communities to visit when I go to VA in February to look for a place. Iâm not looking for a large place. Actually something the size of where I am now. A one bedroom or something like that would be fine. I prefer a mixed aged area and do not want to go into an over 55 community. Iâm also wondering is realtors are used to find rentals or if itâs something you seek out on your own. Comments would be appreciated....See MoreHELP! where should we make the opening for the washer?
Comments (2)Hey randy427! Thx for your response. We ended up cutting a small "u" figure in the upper back side of the cabinet and the hoses sit in the groove of the "u" which I still have to line w something o the water lines/tubing doesnt rub against the wood. We ended up having plenty of room thank goodness. I will pos pics so other folks my learn this also. Comments (9)Thank you All for your help and advice!! It looks like I'm getting a mini crown after all! Now we just need to pick either #5 or #7. Can't wait for DH to mock them up tonight! :) oldhouse1: Thanks for your reply and vote! You're right, the Ogee crown is not paint matched yet; I agree that it will look better when it is. I just saw pics of your kitchen - it is Gorgeous!! I wanted to paint Tidaholm too (it's my favorite Shaker look - lovely, elegant stiles and rails), but we're on a shoestring budget. Love your cabinets' furniture feet, shelves with brackets and your ironstone collection (furniture feet and brackets under the cabinet ends have been on my wish list for DH, and I'm just starting my ironstone collection - I have one pitcher and creamer so far). In some places it looks like you did not use a side cover panel. How did you handle that? Did you leave the side as is, or maybe paint it and hide the space against the wall somehow? kmmh: Thank you for your reply! I'm leaning towards those two as well. Actually, more than leaning - it's officially down to just those two! :) chiefy76: #5 is one of my favorites! (It looks like DH has his work cut out for him - we're getting a crown, hooray!) Thanks so much for your vote!...See MoreWhere should we place the MW drawer in the opening/ panel?
Comments (5)Its about 2 1/2" from the top of the drawer to the bottom of the counter. The unit needs to rest on the shelf which Sharp says needs to be able to support 100 lbs. There was a 3/16" lip between the face frame and the bottom of the shelf so we put a piece of luan plywood on the shelf to bring it flush with the face frame. We needed to add a filler strip at the top of the opening and cut the sides back for it to fit. (Kraftmaid cabinet) The height is comfortable. Our granite overhangs the front more than is typical because of the corner posts and we can see the display just fine.
