Veal Chops- How do you like yours done?
Comments (6)Medium-rare for us for veal chops. We like them a little more cooked than we like steak. Yes, pre-salt. I brown them quickly in a little oil on the stove-top, then put pan and all in a 450 oven for 6-7 minutes. Remove to plate, tent with foil, pour off almost all the oil and deglaze with white wine and some beef or chicken stock. Thicken a litle. I like thyme with veal. Birthdays call for reconsitituted dried morels in the sauce....See MoreHow do you like your marble countertops?
Comments (41)I often see posts about Carrera and Calacutta marbles --- has anybody done Crema Marfil? Is it really a "true" marble? I had a granite in mind for my master bath and there isn't enough of it. On my revisit to the stone yard I was once again attracted to the soothing qualities of crema marfil --- only a tiny bit of veining, very consistent, with once in a while fossils. It looks very pretty. My other granite choices just didn't seem to work as well with the fabrics and cabinets that I have in mind. The crema marfil would make a very monochromatic look, but it would allow my pretty windows to shine and would hopefully all just look pretty together. But, I came home, jumped on GW and saw so little about it that it worries me! Don't mean to hijack, I'm just hoping somebody has experience with this stone! Here is a picture of the combo --- the creamy color will be my cabinets, the dark brown paint and then the fabrics are window seat and window treatment. The little glass crackle tile would be periodic in the floor. I could do crema marfil floor tile as well, but again, not much info! BTW, kateskouros, if I had an island like your gorgeous island, I'd be propped up on it making margaritas!...See MoreHow do you know when you're done?
Comments (19)I have five kids (eldest is almost 12, youngest is almost 2) -- they are fantastic, incredible, wonderful creatures :-) We have four sons and a daughter, and our home is filled with the sounds of giggling and arguing and jumping and running and chitter-chatter. My husband and I go to bed every night thanking one another for the family we have. The first two boys (26 months apart) each arrived 11 weeks preterm (29 weeks' gestation) and required months of hospitalization in the NICU, including multiple surgeries, ambulance rides and long nights of wondering if they'd survive until morning. They finally became healthy little toddlers and I had my tubes tied, thinking there was no way I could bear to bring another baby into a terrifying scenario like that again. Time passed, and the yearning got only stronger for more children...I discovered the source of my obstetric problems (a congential gynecological defect) and underwent a grueling seven-hour surgery to repair my tubes and correct my dysfunctional anatomy. Went on to have three more scrumptious kids and now I have five healthy, gorgeous children. It's exhausting, yes. It sometimes causes a bit of financial juggling (I'm a SAHM). The volume in my house is often very high with clamors for my attention or frustrations among the siblings, but it's nothing compared to the joy of hearing them laugh uncontrollably during an afternoon of goofing off as a family. I don't worry about the teenage years -- we've done our best to lay the groundwork to raise our kids with enormous self-respect and self-esteem. They'll make mistakes, I'm sure of it, but hopefully they'll return to their core values and continue to grow into fine adults. Until then, we have years of baking cookies, chasing the dog around the backyard, monitoring homework and tidying up mountains of Hot Wheels and multi-colored wooden blocks with these sweet, funny little kids we're so lucky to call our own. It's all good. Create the family you want, and then pour your heart and soul into enjoying your blessings. If you already feel sad about *no more babies, ever* and the vasectomy hasn't even happened yet, you're clearly not ready to move on -- you'll know in your heart which path is right for you and your family. Warm regards....See MoreWhat Else do You Love, Now That You're Done!
Comments (31)Love the Butler's pantry off the kitchen which also has the all freezer unit, 8 drawers and 2 cabinets - tons of storage Love the big all freezer and all fridge units although not the brand originally purchased. Love the filtered hot and cold water dispenser. Love the sink so deep you can't see the dirty dishes unless you're right on top of it. With a dishpan also makes a great bath tub for the puppy LOL Love having 2 Dishwashers and love that they are SOOOO quiet Love my floating bar and that my kids can talk to me while doing homework and I'm making dinner LOVE having a computer in the kitchen (Love my new MacGourmet program too) Love the Magic corner units - I have so much extra space Love the toekick drawers Love my can drawers Love all my drawers - the 2 36" drawers are amazing for storing pots and baking stuff Love my pot rack in the cupboard Love having no smells - yeah venthood Love the pull through trash which opens from either side of the peninsula Love my WORKING Double Ovens Love my pull out pantry Most of all LOVE the ease with which it all works together One year later what I wish I had done differently: * Put one DW closer to the prep area instead of having both in the clean up area * Put in a back splash instead of waiting - it may never get done * Put in a whole house water filter instead of just the drinking water * Sacrificed one upper cabinet for bigger windows. I had so little storage before and I was so scared of not having enough in this kitchen that I went with storage over a window. Even though the window I have now is bigger than the old one, a bigger one would have been even nicer * Chosen a better brand of fridge and freezer. Our GE Monogram all fridge freezer unit will shortly be replaced with Miele units...See Morelilacinjust
