How do you clean the enamel on your gas range top?
Comments (6)Put the grates (upside down) in a zip lock bag(s) with about 1/2 cup amonia and leave overnight. Then use a wire brush, tooth brush or something like that and you should be able to easily brush off the burned on gunk. I just did this and it worked great. I'm going to try to remember to put them in the DW more often to maybe avoid this process....See MoreGriddle vs. Grill on a range... like 'em? How do you use them?
Comments (24)I had the 48" DCS in my last house. Overall we weren't impressed with the DCS, it needed service a couple of times in the first couple of years (we lived with it for 4). However, the griddle was great, we loved it. It was great for pancakes, toasted sandwiches and reheating pizza! We had the grill, but as vegans didn't use it much, maybe for veggie burgers etc. It did work well and seemed to get as hot as needed. I recently bought the 44" Aga Legacy for my real Victorian remodel. SOOOO unhappy with it that my awesome dealer (Yale Appliance in Boston) offered to take it back (long story). We picked out a 48" Monogram with the griddle today to replace it. We are very lucky that we can move a cabinet and fit the 48" in. I was sold on the Monogram by the chef who works at Yale. He is beyond knowledgable and has no incentive to sell me anything. He pointed out lots of features the Monogram has over the Viking, Wolf etc. I was also shopping ovens, and the size and rolling shelves of the Monogram sealed the deal. GE took the brand back from DCS and really put a lot of thought and engineering into the brand....See Moregriddle vs. grill on your range top
Comments (6)disagree if you are fan of grilling, A griddle can be easily duplicated with an accessory pan on a two burner rangetop , but the grilling experience can't be. Sure there are grill pans that will put grill marks on your entree, but that's only half the equation of grilling. I suppose that some might point out that a seasoned builtin griddle adds to the experience , but that too can be duplicated with the right griddle pan. What it really boils down to is do you like charred foods enough to warrant the grill? As a novelty or once a year use , it is not a good use off $$$ or space. There are also different type fuel sources for both, electric or gas griddle, electric or gas powered grill and some are just tubes heating a rack while others are char-broiler types that don't have very much temp control. With regard to your question about lines vs. pancakes - I'd say that if you don't know the benefits of having a built in one, then you would better off with a 6 burner top a a pair of pans - one with a flat surface and one with grill humps. There are a few combo pans on the market if you have a storage problem. That will give you more versatility and be a little easier to clean if that's important to you. While advisor brings up a good point about powerful rangehoods needing makeup air, especially in a tightly sealed house, he fails to tell you that you're probably going to need that feature with a griddle too ! You're also going to need that system if you have a wood burning fireplace in that same house. Shame shame advisor, I think your pithy industry editorial style is clouding your judgement when dispensing advice here. By the way , which nasty gases does grilling produce??? You make it sound like a health hazzard, and just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean that there are not fans of BBQ smells and sights. If your going to dispense advice as a pro around here you should really give both sides of the story ,not just your opinion veiled as fact....See Moredo you use your range top grill?
Comments (10)We use our BS grill all the time. I use a grill brush while it is still hot. That gets the grates clean of stuck-on bits. I keep the long grill brush in a pots and pans drawer that holds the ones I don't use that frequently. My housekeeper cleans the inside of the grill every couple of weeks. She changes the foil in the drip trays and cleans the metal piece that covers the burners. Is it perfect? No. But it's a working kitchen, not a museum. And I don't even use the cover. I just don't care enough to do that. The top of the grill looks pretty good and no one is going to peer inside to look below. I love your kitchen Kate. It's on my top three GW kitchens and I can't even name the other two! But use it. Life is too short to stress about stuff like this, IMO. I think this is like getting the first marble etches. You get upset and then get over it....See Morepractigal
