Help! - Trying to spruce up our new home...
Comments (4)It's probably the starkness of the white walls that make it feel cold. Do you have favorite colors, colors you detest(pink and lavender for me), or a color scheme you'd like to use (warm neutrals, greys, etc.)? SW kilim beige and nomadic desert (have them love them), accessible beige, balanced beige, bm revere pewter, shaker beige, and manchester tan are popular colors. If you choose a neutral background for the walls, lose the border and get new light fixtures, you can accessorize with brighter colors in manageable amounts and change it as you wish. You could also switch out the laminate for a color and pattern with a little more pizzazz for a moderate amount. How long has the house been empty? While I would definitely paint a nice neutral to freshen and warm it up, sometimes a house just needs a new loving family to breath life into it again....See MorePlease help me jazz up my kitchen!
Comments (19)About accent color, I say, pick a favorite color of yours. Don't ask other people what color you should pick. It has to be something you like. I have read, " take a look, in your clothes closet. Whatever colors are dominant, that is what you will most likely want in your home. Of course, not blacks or Browns, but you get the idea. And yes, do something about that awful overhuang, it's a real distraction from the rest of the kitchen. I can't not focus on it....See Morehelp me decorate my new beautiful home please
Comments (16)Sara Skiz, that's a beautiful rug and while the room does feel a bit heavy, I think that can be alleviated by spreading the furniture out a bit more and choosing some lighter art and accessories. As for the bar stools, can you give us a shot that shows how this area relates to the counter? That is, a photo that has the seating area and counter in the same shot?...See MoreNeed help sprucing up the front of my house
Comments (5)I agree that the house would look better without shutters. When you remove the ramp, widen the stairs so they're the full width of the area between the posts. Beef up the posts to 6x6 and paint it all white. Add pretty hanging baskets on each post. Pick a pretty blue color for the front door and paint it, along with the screen door the same color. Definitely add larger lights that face down. A pretty lantern style would work well. Paint the downspouts yellow to match the house. I wouldn't add a parking pad-it will look to heavy and ruin the symmetry the house has. I love Cape Cod houses-I lived in one for 26 years. Congratulations on your new house!...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
