21hp B&S V-Twin backfiring and fouling plugs
Comments (17)I'm not sure what the cross reference filter's part number was. It was just one that crossed and that was in stock. The outer diameter was 1/4" smaller than the B&S filter. Concerning the sequence of events - the clogged filter resulted in fouled plugs. I wasn't aware that the plugs were fouled but I did know that the filter was tremendously dirty so I changed it but didn't change the plugs until after I realized that the filter change had no effect. Once I noticed that the plugs were fouled I changed them and the mower seemed to be working properly but it then fouled the new plugs in after only running it for 1.5 hours. I went to the B&S website and submitted the information to them to see if they had any recommendations and their reply was to change the air filter. I wrote back and told them that I had already changed it but it didn't make a difference. The tech then wrote back and asked for the model number of my engine and when I provided that to him he responded by telling me that it was a documented problem with that engine and that there are several cross reference filters that will fit but the mower won't run well with. Twice he wrote to me and told me to change the filter to the B&S numbers and it would fix the problem. Obviously I had to change the plugs too since they were fouled and when I did that this weekend I could immediately tell that it was running much better. I used it for ~3.5 hours and it never missed a beat and I could tell too that it was no longer running rich. I'm sure it is fixed because even when it seemed to be running well when I had changed the plugs the first time it still ran rich. This time there were no signs of it running rich and it never once lacked power or backfired as it had before. The part number recommended by B&S is: Air filter 692519, pre filter 692520. BTW, the tech also stated that there are even hood stickers that call out the wrong air filter part number too. The printed material that I have for my engine even lists the wrong spark plug gap. I found that out when I had the tech verify all the numbers and specs for me before working on it this weekend. Lastly, the salesman at the parts store told me that they had experienced problems with that same engine when they had used other air filters. As he stated it, "that motor is very picky about the air filter that it uses". Strange but true! At least in this case. Thanks again. Comments (22)Campanula -- I think the defoliating is a Florida/California thing. Since we don't really have winter, the plants tend to keep virtually all of their leaves from last season. I like to remove them to tell the plant spring is coming, as well as to dramatically reduce the number of black spot spores in the garden. It is indeed labor-intensive, but if we can do it, we like to. Pillars are an interesting way to grow a columnar rose. It works especially well with roses like 'Don Juan' that tend to make a few very stiffly upright canes that resist bending. And yes, if you don't trim such a rose properly, you get a bunch of flowers on the top. It is through the creation of many cut stems all along the length of the pillar that we get even bloom throughout the height. I'm trying to think where, near Cambridge, you could have a good look at some pillars. I'm fairly sure I've seen some at Peter Beales' Nursery. Don't recall seeing any at Mannington Hall. I'll put a link here to a 'Don Juan' in the FSC garden -- I'm a bit hesitant to do that, because it was not at that point ideally trained to the pillar, so it's not a great example. Still, you can get an idea from it. Malcolm...See MoreHP Printer - Windows XP Compatability
Comments (10)Here's some info from fixya.com. It follows along with owbist's suggestion. "Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your (you are?) done."...See MoreCraftsman 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener - Only one works!
Comments (153)Hi everyone, I know i sound like a tape recorder but my craftsman 1/2 hp has been working fine for 3 yrs. Not sure what happened to the remotes, but they stopped working. I first tried replacing the batteries but after that didnt work i went out and brought two brand new up to date chamberlain klik3u universal garage remotes. Retail 40 bucks per. They say in the manual they are compatible to my garage opener which was manufactured in 1997. They wont program as well. My garage opens and closes fine. I guess im here to find out if anyone has any other trouble shooting facts to program because the "press the red button like a door bell, hit the button you want programmed" basics isnt working for me. I called chamberlain about the remotes and they basically told me go jump in a lake, all our remotes program fast and easy!!! I need help ppl. Plzzzzz...See More- 8 years ago
