What caused my sheets to -seriously- yellow?
Comments (5)Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. Yes, iron can happen that way and it is sometimes less noticeable on things like underwear and socks because they are not exposed to sunlight. I have seen that bleach is also a problem as mentioned here, but it does seem to show up when the clothes come out of the dryer. I can also agree with the detergent build up. Try washing anything that is yellowing with half the amount of detergent and an oxygen bleach with a cup of vinegar in the wash and skip the fabric softner. Wash it in the hottest water you can get in your machine. If you have a top loader, maybe a pot of hot water will help. I use vinegar as a fabric softner and periodically will use regular bleach as opposed to the oxygen bleach for some clothes and even with the iron in our water, I seem to have less problems with the yellowing of clothing than most of the neighbors. Sometimes trial and error will eventually tell you what caused it before you have it happen again, but hopefully you can figure it out without having any more clothing ruined....See MoreRough Linen post continued
Comments (54)I am definitely going to order the bath mat, too. I think I will enjoy the look of it as much as the feel. I have a terry one now, but this one would be nice. I would like to get a couple king size pillow slips just because I like having the extra fabric to completely cover the ends of the pillows. Will probably get the apron instead of the pinafore. I need to spread out my purchases, though. Oh, and I definitely need the bed skirt for the downstairs guest room! Jeepers, I could go on and on. Oh and I washed the sheet, summer cover, and pillow slips today. I put the sheet on the bed to dry and stretched and smoothed it. No need for ironing! It looks wonderfully smooth. I did iron the pillow slips. Looks so nice! The summer cover is rinsing now....See MoreThat was quick! Rough Linen here
Comments (122)Suzie, I replied on the other thread. I think you will find that the linen does soften beautifully but you might like to press them at least the first couple fo times you use them. The pillowcases are quick to press and I remember reading something in another context about an initial pressing helping set the way the fibers will lay. Maybe it will help the fibers in your pilowcases lay smoother. But they will soften up....See MoreLoving Oxyclean - my white linen slipcovers look new again!
Comments (40)tnfarm - wanted to get back to you. I washed my white cotton sofa slipcover and it came out great. I dissolved about six scoops of Oxy-clean in a bowl of hot water, stirred it around for a few minutes and added that to the cold water in the machine. I also used detergent. I let the machine run for a few minutes then stopped it and restarted it the next day. They came out great. Best thing is I had these strange orange/yellow discoloration spots on one of the cushions, I thought it was from bleach and would never come off but it did. I think instructions do say to use Oxy-clean with hot water but I didn't want to risk these slipcovers shrinking, and they came out really better than they ever have....See MoreDebbi Branka
