Well, in a few days a new LG 3570 pair is being delivered to my house. I will quickly find out if this was a good purchase. In my neck of the woods, Electrolux isn't as popular as LG. Not as many appliance repair companies advertise doing warranty service on Electrolux as LG. LG seems to be a safer bet. (Fingers crossed.)

Several members here have, and love, their Electroluxes. I was disappointed that one feature that is important to me is missing on most Electroluxes - an access door to the pump trap. Our current washer, an Asko has one of these, and I'm glad it's there. Two or three times a year, change (or other small items) are left in pockets and make their way between the inner and outer drum and into the pump trap. I don't know if Electroluxes are as prone to doing this (some say "No!"), but if this type of thing did occur I would need to call in a service tech to open the Electrolux and clear the pump trap. Only the compact Electrolux washer has a pump trap access door. Strange!

Mind you, if you liked your old LG, there is a good chance you might like the current line up. Good luck with deciding.

I am not sure what you mean by "this" when you say "he doesn't want to go through this" when the dryer fails. The dryer is usually the less costly more easily replaced of the two appliances. For me, I would replace only the broken appliance.

So far I like my compact Electrolux. I was very interested in the stacked speed queen and the compact LG but both speed queen and LG had a very poor customer service reputation in my area. If you're lucky whatever set you buy will work well from the get-go and you will never have to find out about anyone's customer service. That being said, be sure to get something that can be readily serviced in your area.

I've had my 4270 set for about a year and a half. I will say that overall, I'm pleased with them. They have been reliable, wash well, and they can handle king size bedding..and that's what I needed.

Biggest issue I have is the 'water hammer' that I mostly tamed with arrestors. The dryer 'steam' functions are worthless. They pretty much just squirt about a cup of water on your clothes, leaving your items unevenly wet and needing to be re-dried for 30 minutes.

Other issues I have apply to pretty much all new washers/dryers.. Rinsing could be improved without adding extra cycles , and energy saving dryer settings just take twice as long to give you damp clothes

I'm not sure if it's working as designed or not. But seems to be common. I really don't use it as a damp washcloth or towel works better for me.

Keeping the old dryer seems like a good option, if a mixed set doesn't bother you. Dryers seem to last a bit longer than washers, and I think it's crazy that they cost more than the washer when they seem so much less complex

Something I did invest in was an appliance surge protector. There are so many electronic parts that are expensive to replace, so I thought it was a good investment for under $30
