Limited to HD for new FL....need help b/w LG & Maytag FL
Comments (13)You hear good and bad about all brands. There's many happy LG owners posting on this forum. There's people who have had bad luck with all brands. That's called reality. A heater isn't truly mandatory in my opionion but I think it's a good idea as long as it works on enough cycles to be functional, and raises the temperature of the water, not just maintains the temperature. The Epics have gotten a lot of good reviews, and they should, they're Whirlpools and a proven design. Samsung does not build machines for them anymore - that's old information. I understand your budget concerns and I think you're looking at good models. I do like the suggestion of the Miele though. Now $2000 for the washer is a lot, but considering the amount of laundry you do, you can justify it. However, with any of them, I would suggest you consider NOT getting a matching dryer. Save the money there and put it toward the washer. A large (7.4+) CF Whirlpool dryer can be bought for about $400-$500 or less and they're excellent dryers. I bought mine for $300 and would buy it again in an instant. If you're going HE, and especially with a heater, you need to be prepared for long cycle times. 2-3 hours worth. It takes time to heat the water and the tumbling action needs more time to clean the clothes over an agitator. You sound sold on a FL so I won't suggest looking at the HE TLs. And I haven't found anyone who can give rational reasons for steam either in the washer or dryer. I think the word is "gimmick". If you have a laundry tub next to your washer, you can run the water in the tub to get the hot water close to the washer to have it warmer going into the tub. Keep in mind the tub itself will cool the water down. That's why a good heater could be valuable. But it's not the end all be all either. Advantage sometimes? Yes. Essential? No. People have washed and sanitized clothes for years without them. And as you're looking, get figures on water temperatures in degrees, not ambiguous terms like "hot", "warm" or "cold". What's hot to you may well be cold to me....See MoreQuestion re: LG4270
Comments (34)Can anyone tell me if the Turbowash is hard on clothes? I'd like to replace a 10+ year old whirlpool front load washer and matching dryer that came with the house I recently purchased because I can't seem to completely get the musty smell out nor all the moldy residue out of the gasket and detergent compartment. I'm pretty excited to get a model to combine with the LG sidekick because my daughter's clothes make pretty small loads and I'd love to be able to do 2 loads at once. But then I read that loads can frequently take 90-120 minutes in the newer front loaders. That's crazy! My current washer takes about an hour with an extra rinse. I thought an upgrade was going to improve my efficiency, not the opposite. Turbowash sounds like it helps but it sounds like it might be harsh on clothes with this high powered water spray that is described. If anyone could please share their personal experience, I would appreciate it. Thanks!...See MoreLG or Whirlpool Duet
Comments (24)@carvyn - I would prefer more water but that depends on other features. F.ex. which has a certified allergen cycle -- as that's the guarantee of the hottest wash. They play games with these machines and eliminate features some of us find essential. Fine combing the specs and the user manuals seems to be the only way to figure out what each model offers. Somewhere, on a thread -- if anyone knows where please link it! -- Dadoes described how to read their model numbers. Which machines are in stock, and what they may be "replacing" a well-loved model with can be other factors. Whirlpool makes a good FL by all accounts. It certainly satisfies many here who are particular about their laundry practices. Others also like their LGs, Electroluxes, and, of course, Mieles....See MoreNeed a new washer--LG FLer?
Comments (18)I have loved my LG FL, and love it even more with the Arrestors I just installed. Definitely do that, as it may spare you some plumbing troubles down the road. That being said, my REAL COMPLAINT with the LG FL is that many models are designed with a part that will likely fail within two years, and dump water out the bottom of the washer. The part is the tub to pump drain hose, (often called a bellows hose) and you will find numerous forums online, and youtube clips that explain how to replace it. For many customers, including myself, the hose wears out approximately every two years. I found this out after mine developed the same tear that everyone is talking about, and dumped gallons of water across the floor of my laundry room. The part is very cheap, $10 to $15 online, and not terribly difficult to replace. We have simply made a note to replace it every 20 months--hoping that will be soon enough. My washer was built in 2014. One of the homeowner's on youtube purchased his in 2004, and has had to change the hose every 2 years since. I'm pretty sure that LG has been made aware of the problem after 10 years, but they have not changed or strengthened the part! I am guessing they are keeping it as a Money Maker for their appliance repair affiliates :( ?...See More- 7 years ago
