I'm sitting here trying to decide between three washers. The LG 3670 is one of them. The others are the Electrolux 517 and the Whirlpool 87 (which won't work for you since it is not NSF certified). I'm hesitant about getting an LG because of the water hammer issue. I have a KitchenAid DW which has/had a water hammer issue. We installed an arrestor but recently, I just heard the noise again. I googled it and said the water hammer arrestor does not always work. Don't know if its worth the risk.

I had also considered the Electrolux. Good to know about your water hammer issues. Maybe I will revisit the Electrolux.

Yes, I can wait a couple of weeks, though not much past that. We do also have a builders discount through Sears, which I am guessing will not stack with sales. I'm also not set on using Sears, especially as I have been really disappointed in their service in the past.

A good aspect of buying large appliances from Sears is you have a 30 day return policy..so if you use the washer and don't like it you can send it back. I would check and make sure this hasn't changed.

I was looking at Electrolux machines and the Sears website says "NSF sanitize option." They don't mention allergens. I went to the NSF website and it doesn't mention a temperature for sanitizing. I think I have read about this here? They are relying on bleach or something?

Some of the Electrolux machines' descriptions mention "Perfect Steam." Seems like that must mean I could somehow get the machine to do a true hot wash? So if I go with an Electrolux that has "Perfect Steam" would I be set for being able to get a truly hot wash ?

We had a water hammer issue and the plumber installed an arrestor. He first put in a Tee and set the center leg to face upwards and put the arrestor there. I think that is important for it to work right.

I have the Electrolux 517. I'm very happy with the machine. Clothes are clean, and has a nice hot sanitize cycle at 152f.

I have a similar LG washer and am very happy with it. I've had it for about 3.5 years now with no issues. Both the Sanitary and Allergiene cycles get plenty hot. Water hammer has not been a problem for me (but I have plastic pipes in my house). The one difference between the model I have and the one you posted is that mine has a Wool cycle. Is that a problem for you? I use mine a lot for wool and cashmere sweaters.

They are all good choices! A store return policy is a must have. In additon, word of wise is purchase an extended warranty, most especially with a FL. They can and will break, and its not if, but when. Pumps 3 years,bearings 5-7 years, electronics anytime. If your told different, your being lied to.

rpinforman, what do you mean by a store return policy? do you mean a 30 day trial? Returns allowed with no questions asked (like at HD)? I'm planning on getting an extended warranty but that is affecting where I am planning on buying my washer. I really don't want to use Sears or HD's repair company. I've heard bad stuff about them. I was planning on going to PC Richards. Do you have an opinion who I buy the extended warranty from? Haven't thought this completely through.

Yes, 30 day no question ask return policy. I have no opinion on who to purchase warranty through. In many respects it depends on your geographic location. You mention Sears but where I live they, A&E does all the contract work for Lowes, Depot, HhGreg and Sears. You dont have the option of who repairs, its contracted. In your area it might be another company. Whats important is no deductable, and full replacement clause. Purchase a term of 5 years. Thats the sweet spot for many failures, and its like clock work. First year is covered by manufacturer and servicer is there choice. We all talk of. FL with a life cycle of 10 years, but this is rarely without making repairs in the interim. Just good stuff to know.

I have the slightly older 3570, which was LG's least-expensive model with Turbo Wash. (Turbo Wash really does reduce wash-cycle times.) Overall, I have been pleased with it. But in retrospect I would have considered purchasing one model higher - the 4270 - due to options like a true Wool cycle, and more manual options. The 3570's matching dryer does not have an easy-to-use manual-timed setting. I have to use and tweak a "fast dry" cycle to get a manual drying cycle.

As for water hammer, I don't think it's all that bad. Sioux Chief Miniresters are supposed to be the best for the LG washers. In fact I think LG literature or videos specifically mention them. I bought a couple before the washer was delivered, but the deliverer/installer refused to install them. They sit unused. I may still, however, install them myself. But I haven't felt a pressing need to do so.

I have loved my LG FL, and love it even more with the Arrestors I just installed. Definitely do that, as it may spare you some plumbing troubles down the road. That being said, my REAL COMPLAINT with the LG FL is that many models are designed with a part that will likely fail within two years, and dump water out the bottom of the washer. The part is the tub to pump drain hose, (often called a bellows hose) and you will find numerous forums online, and youtube clips that explain how to replace it. For many customers, including myself, the hose wears out approximately every two years. I found this out after mine developed the same tear that everyone is talking about, and dumped gallons of water across the floor of my laundry room. The part is very cheap, $10 to $15 online, and not terribly difficult to replace. We have simply made a note to replace it every 20 months--hoping that will be soon enough. My washer was built in 2014. One of the homeowner's on youtube purchased his in 2004, and has had to change the hose every 2 years since. I'm pretty sure that LG has been made aware of the problem after 10 years, but they have not changed or strengthened the part! I am guessing they are keeping it as a Money Maker for their appliance repair affiliates :( ?

If your not handy and dont have extended warranty, thats a $200 repair.

So I ordered an LG 3670 model--with 2 yr extended warranty for buying from Costco and purchased a 3 yr warranty from Sq Trade-- will replacing that hose be something I can have THEM do under the warranty? My husband is not mechanically inclined--he won't be able to check if that hose is starting to go--

so can I just call and tell them I want it replaced after 20 months?

I'm not sure whether your warranties will allow a repair before the problem actually occurs? The good news is that you don't really need to be "mechanically inclined". My husband and I sure aren't, but the youtube videos were very easy to follow. It took us less than an hour to repair it the first time (ordered the part on line); and I expect will take less time now that we are "pros". We chose to replace the bellows hose by just removing the back panel of the washer and reaching everything from there. That worked for our model at least, and seemed a lot less involved than some of the other methods suggested online.
