Would love input on master bath layout
Comments (7)It seems to me that your layout provides the best use of space considering the windows and the doorway. To leave the toilet where it is means giving up your double sink vanity and having an unused spot over by the shower (I guess it could be linen closet if push comes to shove). The plumber will just need to do a little extra work to shore up the joists that he'll have to cut through to re-route the waste and water supply pipes. If it makes you feel better, $32k is right in line with what we're paying for our master bath remodel starting next month. Shocking, I know. If you'd like to look into some cost saving measures regarding the marble, there is now a beautiful porcelain tile that totally mimics Carrera. I couldn't believe it when the store associate told me it wasn't marble. I'll look for a link and post back if I can find it....See MoreTrying to pull all the design elements together: Input Sought
Comments (42)We went through our appliance place, but I believe we could have done it online or through the local rep. It's a Vent-a-hood and yes, it was pricey. We were trying to convince ourselves that by having it done in Black River instead of SS that we'd be just as happy, because that would have saved us some serious money. In the end, we decided it wasn't worth the savings if we would be suffering from design fatigue before too long. We also considered going with a European style hood, which would have been a big savings, but we're seeing a lot of those around so we went for something less common (at least around here.) The plan is to age-in-place in this home, so we'll be looking at this for a long, long time. I can barely stand the sound of a vent fan, so DBF was onboard with getting a Vent-a-hood to spare me from the fan noise as much as possible. (What a sweetie!) Still, it was painful to pay $4,700 for a range hood. We took so long to make our decision that it's likely we'll be waiting on this to arrive past the time when it could have possibly been installed. Feedback on from all of you really helped us make our decision. It's one thing to discuss the pros and cons between the two of us, but having input from others that have been down the same road, or can simply look at a design from an outside perspective, is invaluable. Thank you!!!...See MoreInput sought for bathroom floor plan.
Comments (19)In the main bath, we did 2 sinks for resale. There are cabinets under each sink and drawers in the cabinet between them. Only 1 sink is used because it's DH's bathroom. We expanded a powder room to a 3/4 bath. That's my bathroom. I wish there had been room for 2 sinks. That's the nearest sink to the laundry closet, so I pre-treat in my only sink. Still beats having to go to the basement to do laundry. The house was built in 1952, so it has pocket doors already. I wanted a pocket door for the main bathroom, too. It's a solid core door so it moves nicely. Love it! I did own a house with a hinged door next to the toilet. After DH opened the door and caught my bare foot on the edge of the door, I was never entirely relaxed unless the door was either completely open or closed and locked....See Morevessel sinks in master bath. good or bad idea?
Comments (12)I wouldn't want to have to clean around a vessel sink. Before my remodel my sinks were not under-mounted and that was bad enough. With my under-mounted sinks, everything can just be sponged into the sink from the counter when cleaning. Also it is pretty tall if you have one of the modern higher vanities to lean over when washing one's face. This may or may not be relevant. Conceivably I might have one in the powder room since it would just be used for washing hands. I have a copper sink in the powder room which is theoretically high maintenance because it has a factory patina but that's fine since it gets minimal use. FWIW, I have a Havens Metal copper sink in the kitchen with a living finish (e.g. no factory fake patina) which is non-maintenance so I understand the difference....See Morelocaleater
