Help with Tile Choices for 2 Bathrooms with Carrara Countertops
Comments (6)I love the marble top I received and it was very similar to the one I saw in a RH store. You can also purchase samples of the counter material online ($20 I think?). I will probably be purchasing some samples now (yes, after the vanity is installed) to test out soaps and find out what will or will not etch. I think a dark gray tile on the floor and white tile on the tub surround would be absolutely lovely. Personally I would use tile colors in the "cool" family (whites, grays, etc) to be in keeping with the cool colors of the carrara top. I will definitely post pictures when I am finished. Things have been a little crazy lately and I'm at about the 90% completed mark and am struggling to find time to finish....See MoreCounter top, rug, paint choices...please help
Comments (4)I think it is fine that the rug and countertop are not the same pinks. Too much matchy-matchy and the rooms lose depth and interest. Rather than overload on pink, I think it would be nice to pick a pale green for the whole space. It will help your pinks stand out. Or depending on how much wall space you have in the kitchen, you could do a paler shade of green there and a deeper shade of the same family in the DR. Look to the leaves in the rug for help. Think about roses and peonies in artwork, cranberry and burgundy glassware, drapery in a rich plaid or floral that incorporates the pinks and greens...See MoreCan you help me with my master bathroom counters?
Comments (9)There is nothing wrong with a laminate if it is in good condition. Some of us still buy it! My kitchen counters are Wilsonart laminate and my husband's bookcase appears to have a stone top, but it is Formica 360 with a matching edge. Even if you go with a very neutral top, you will be tied to the undertones in that white or off-white countertop when you remodel. You may curse yourself for such a constraint when you go to pick tile someday. BTW, when you do go to remodel the bathroom, it is not just a matter of re-tiling. A shower is a multi-layered thing. You can't remove the tile without ruining the waterproofing underneath (if there is any). You will likely be going back to the studs and redoing the wallboard and then waterproofing when it is time to do the shower. Not to mention the shower floor, which also will need to be waterproofed and sloped appropriately. So take your time and read in this forum over the intervening years and you will learn enough to have an intelligent conversation with your contractor (or family member) about the standard of waterproofing you expect them to achieve when they remodel. If you don't address it in the pre-planning, you may learn too late that they did not waterproof or they did it wrong....See MoreHELP UGLY Granite bathroom counters and Almond Colored Fixtures
Comments (9)If it helps I had an ugly Baltic brown granite counter with dated fixtures and dated 4” backsplash/sidesplash, but was not up for a demolition project in this bathroom so left it. . We plopped a new white rectangular semi-recessed Toto sink on top of the old oval hole (the belly of the new sink sits down into the old oval cutout, no cutting & patching). The new sink & faucet stand higher and brighter against the hated brown granite. Relatively low cost low mess. ETA: better pic from realtor’s website, this was a last-minute change before listing...See Moregigib_08
