Help with Tile Choices for 2 Bathrooms with Carrara Countertops

The tile installer is coming today to take measurements and I still haven't chosen my tile.

Here is some info:

Bathroom # 1 - Ensuite.

-Rough dimensions (taken when completely gutted) were 5' x 9'_

-Costco Studio Kalize Single 48" Vanity with Mirror (Espresso stained wood)

-Bianco Carrera Marble Countertops with Undermount sink

-Tub with shower surround.

So I need to choose floor tiles and tile for the tub surround for this bathroom. I am thinking of doing a simple white subway tile surround around the shower and also using the tile as "wainscotting" around the whole room. My house is mainly earth tones/neutrals, but the vanity was a goo ddeal and came with a Carrara top. Now I'm stumped!

Bathroom #2 - Same Problem!

-Restoration Hardware HUTTON Double Vanity.

-Italian Carrara Countertop

-Tub with Ugly (but cheap!:)) Acrylic surround.

-I have to choose floor tile and also I am thinking of "sprucing up" the acrylic surround with tile.

Don't know if you are wanting the carrara look on the floor but I looked at one by Daltile called Carrara Star NV01. It has a honed look and comes in 12x12 and 18x18. It is what I'm thinking of putting in my bath on the floor with the carrara marble top and acrylic surround we already have (and would love to get rid of). Good luck!!

I am finishing up a remodel of my main bathroom with a Restoration Hardware Hutton single vanity (white with Carrara marble top) and white acrylic bath tub. I decided to use the Daltile Navelli Carrara Star (NV01) tile in 12x12. I am loving the combination. It is very white, but the room feels so much larger now and has a very clean calm feeling. Sorry I do not have any pictures uploaded anywhere online yet since the bathroom isn't finished.

Can you find 8 x 8 or 6 x 6 honed carrara tile? If so, then perhaps your installer could cut the tiles to the 2" width. We wanted 6 x 12 honed crema marfil laid in a running bond pattern for our kitchen backsplash. We found that buying 12 x 12 honed crema marfil tiles and having the installer cut the tiles in half was much less expensive than the 6 x 12 tiles. We have 6 x 12 travertine laid in a herringbone pattern in a bath & laundry room & it looks great.

Sorry for the late response! We have a lot of family visiting for the holiday and I couldn’t get to a computer… Beautybutdebtfree- Good idea!! We will probably use the uba tuba for the fireplace hearth and surround, and possibly mantel too. Hopefully it will coordinate well w/ the kitchen. Thank you! Skyangel23- Thanks :-) I have been looking at the black trash bags a lot, just walking through the kitchen and really like the look :-) I did order a bunch of light and dark samples from wilsonart and formica but don’t remember if I got any of the 180x series. I thought of doing the silgranit overmounts, but they didn’t a large single bowl for our island sink. :-) Just the diamond series which had the curved back side and offset faucet hole… May_flowers - Thanks! I hope so :-) We have until Tuesday to decide for sure :-) Enduring- The slabs we tagged were polished- not sure if they can change that in the fabricating process/or if there’s an upcharge (probably)? I haven’t looked into the benefits/downsides of those- will look it up on here. :-) Whenever I think there couldn’t possibly be any more choices, there are haha. Nosoccermom- I love the adjectives you used- a combination of rustic, sophisticated, and organic is definitely what I’m going for :-) Hope to find a good balance! I usually use hot pads (we have laminate now), but I had heard hot pots don’t damage granite too much- but it will be better to be safe than sorry! Will definitely use hot pads- thanks! there are thousands of pictures on her w/options exactly like you've chosen. Have you looked at them? We have no idea what the bathroom layout looks like. don't know how the shower is being built or how you want the tile laid. I did real marble on my floor like this w/a lot more decorative items in the room. (if you click on my name, bathroom redo, you'll see it). all that white is a very cold looking bathroom. (and the choices you've selected too). Without knowing what else you plan on doing, it's hard to say. All your options can work just fine. 3 and 4 might need something else to break up all the cold white marble look. option 3/4,,,you'll basically have something like this, but w/the gold. The wainscot is a nice addition. If the walls were painted an actual color, I think it would look very nice. maybe a light wood shelf, or a wood stook, a nice runner. number two will have this look (w/the slate floor) The teak stool is trying, but it's not enough! In mine I added a wood ceiling, some blue, plants, and decorative tile (I have th basketweave marble in the water closet) Not saying you have to do all of that, but a little warmth/contrast can be good. You can see a glimpse of the wood ceiling in this shot. imagine if it was white, the vanity white, the window white and no black contrast. it would be a very cold looking room. Here's one that is similar to your choices, but w/out the gold hardware. It's nice A little too much white for me though. what do you think about doing a 'rug accent' w/your basketweave? Now compare those similar elements to this one. (with gold!) Look at the diff a little contrast makes. That black door, black lights/mirror. Some painted wood paneling (wainscot would be fine too) and the vintage looking chandelier. They all add interest to the cold/white marble look. marble top, white vanity, gold hardware. just the addition of this wood mirror and accent pieces helps immensely to add a bit of warmth. Your option 1 may look better if you went w/this type of vanity instead of white. But if the vanity is not an option, then you could do a warmer wall color, some art, maybe some driftwood or walnut shelves, even the mirrors. and this option might look better w/a bit more black since you can't do the vanity, bring in the black like they show here in the trim

IMO they are different cararras so why not stick with one kind .I like 12 x24 tile stacked for both bathroom floors and shower walls then just the same materil for the shower floor just smaller . All of this should have been planned with one type of cararra not 3 and also too many small tiles IMO are a PITA to keep clen in any bathroom.

In the bathroom with the RH vanity, do you think a rectangular, dark grey tile on the floor and a simple white tile surrounding the acrylic tub would look ok? I'm thinking that dark grey tile would pick up on the grey veining in the marble. Only problem is, the vanities have not arrived in the mail yet, so I have to choose the tile without having seen the actual vanity and countertops. TIA

Did you see the post regarding the ceramic Continental Slate by DalTile? I looked on the DalTile website and they have shades of gray, black, green or blue. I think the gray or black would look especially nice with the carrara. If you go that route I'd love to see your pics as I may change my mind!

Pricklypearcactus: Would you post pics when you are done. I'm anxious to see the DalTile Carrara Star since that has been my plan. Thanks!

I love the marble top I received and it was very similar to the one I saw in a RH store. You can also purchase samples of the counter material online ($20 I think?). I will probably be purchasing some samples now (yes, after the vanity is installed) to test out soaps and find out what will or will not etch.

I think a dark gray tile on the floor and white tile on the tub surround would be absolutely lovely. Personally I would use tile colors in the "cool" family (whites, grays, etc) to be in keeping with the cool colors of the carrara top.

I will definitely post pictures when I am finished. Things have been a little crazy lately and I'm at about the 90% completed mark and am struggling to find time to finish.
