Himalayan Salt Block

I received a Himalayan Salt Block for Christmas this year. I had read a little about them at one time but have no one who has actually cooked or worked with one before. Is anyone here experienced with using one of these items? I imagine that for cooking methods, that thinner foods might be the way to go, but I see that people mention cooking steaks on the heated block.
